Need some career advice.

Ok let me start of by saying I am a freshman in college and as of right now im not doing so hot in my classes. But that will all change, college is just downright different then HS. But I have realized that I chose the wrong major. Right now im enrolled in Business. It seems that everyone and their brother is pursuing a business degree. Well with that many people getting these degrees it has to be hard to get a decent paying job. So I'm stuck. I dont know what to change my major to. I was really thinking about marketing. My girlfriends aunt and uncle own the company ignition. ignition Inc. Bringing Brands To Life. An Atlanta based marketing company that that deals in Experiential Marketing and Communications. And they love their job and make great money. But I dont know what all is involved. But im going to talk to them about that, do you guys have any other suggestions?

Im not necessarily doing bad, its just college kind of hit me hard working a full time job also. So I slacked and had to drop a few classes, but my GPA is still a 3.5 or so. I just dont really think business is a good field to go in to right now.

Finding the right career is the biggest pain in the ass man. I can tell you this much right now that I have mentally changed my plans about 10 times and I've changed my major in college about 3 times (Health Sciences, Environmental and Occupational Health, and now I'm sticking to Psychology). You just have to take some time and think what you would be most comfortable doing. It's not always about how much money you'll be making. Take into consideration about how much you'd enjoy doing whatever you are going to end up doing. It wont be worth it to make lots of money if you're not going to enjoy working for it. Just think about it a bit and see what you like to do and find a career that incorporates that.

Like all of us on this site I love working on cars, but thats just not a field I want to go in to. Im not really sure, I think im leaning towards the idea of marketing. My g/f's aunt was telling me about how they take on projects and do all sorts of traveling and things of the sort. I love to travel, I enjoy building things.

If thats something that you like I say look into a bit more and see what it has to offer. Probably take a day off or two and ask her to see what she does and see if that's what you want to do. Good luck on your search.

O yeah dude, thats one reason why im wanting to change. I know business can be a great field and makes lots of money but I want to make sure its something I like to do first. Im stuck at a job right now that I hate to even think about going to but it pays me damn good. But right now im willing to take a pay cut to leave it. And im only 19. So I dont want to be that way for the rest of my life.

The only thing is she OWNS the company. She doesnt do much except run it. If you look on there website they have multiple offices everywhere. They do so much different shit its crazy. But I went to their warehouse where they fabricated everything and it just seemed like a blast. They were doing some advertising for delta and they got some PT Cruisers and equipped them with wings and painted them like a 747 and drove them around europe. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Well hey like I said, if it interests you, pursue it. The only thing is that if it really doesn't work out in the end, you could always change your mind and go elsewhere. All I can say is give it a shot maybe it is your thing. You won't know until you try.

Thats true. And the college im going to now is just a two year and they dont offer marketing. I guess i could just change it to undecided and then finish off my core classes and transfer elsewhere.

Well meanwhile you finish your core classes, you could use that time as well to look around and have an idea more or less what you want to do. It took me a while to realize that I want to go into Psychology because I always had a fascination for helping others and the human mind does intrigue me. I'm not sure where exactly I want to go with it but I'm pretty sure that I'm heading the right path.

Just give it sometime and do what you have to do in order to reach your goal lol. Geez I sound like a motivational speaker haha I'll shut up now.

e-commerce and e-marketing are for companies that have no physical store.....but do all business online. example: amazon.com. e-marketing is so close to IT...but yur learning more of how the site needs to be setup to correctly grab the customers attention. Its computer related....but thats where everything is headed so...
