well i did a project on motorcycle insurance for the state of texas on Esurance's website. They quoted me for a 18 year old for 6000 a year and i think for a 21 year old it was around 4000 if that gives you any idea. may want to price it out yourself though just to be certain.

The big kicker in price on motorcycle insurance is comp. coverage (they fix your bike if you wreck it out somewhere not involving another car) this will double your rate and thats why you see $4k a year rates. If you can fix your own bike then its usauly the first coverage you drop. But if you want to be completly covered no matter what and your are young a crotch rocket is gonna drain the wallet.

I call BS on your guys' estimated mpg from these motorcycles. Yes, they're a LOT better than cars, but you're not getting over 100mpg on a bike. Most big sport bikes (i.e liter-bikes) get in the 40mpg range, smaller ones in the 50s or 60s.

Now, if you have a scooter, sure, you might be getting better than 100mpg, but that's because their designed for economy, not performance.

I wanna get a Gixxer. A 750 or the 1000 would be all you'd ever need.

A motorcycle drivers license, state required insurance and, well, a motorcycle helps too

Parking lot. If you have any buddies w/ a bike, have them show ya a few pointers. If you can get a lesser powerful one to take the test on, that'll help w/ the learning curve.
Like a Suzuki SV 650...

My friends with motorcycles suggest getting a first bike that you're ok with replacing in six months to a year.

I've had several of them suggest a Ninja 250 as a learner bike if you're leaning towards a sport bike.
