Zip, I concur. And I am one of the MANY V8 owners who have undoubtedly let go of their V8 for more economically-viable modes of transport. My cobra was the only car I could afford (meaning, I had to use it as my DD... not enough fundage to have a stang AND a separate car for the commute) but with premium in Seattle nearing the $5/gal. mark, I made the no-brainer decision for a single 24 year old.

I don't see a problem with people griping about fuel prices and our/their mustangs/camaros/transams. Hell, most of us bought these cars back when gas was $1.35/gal. and could afford to scorch some asphalt.

there's a lot to be frustrated about these days. I work my ass off 55 hours a week at a very respectable Fortune-500 company, sometimes, not getting but one or two days off a month, but still I can't afford a home to call my own. Sure, I could buy a 700 sq. ft. condo somewhere (which prices for are outrageous in their own right), but whatever happened to starting a family in your 20's, and having a house with a yard and getting by like our parents and grandparents did once? Sure fuel is killing our economy, but our economy would still be bad if a barrel of crude oil dropped to $50. (what's it at now? $135/barrel?!!!)
I agree wholeheartedly man. In fact, I feel there should be far more outcry about the state of gas prices.I can remember back in roughly 2000, when gas & diesel first shot up. I was filling up the tractor trailer at work, and the price was 2.22 a gallon. I recall putting in 120 gallons, and the bill being 260 some odd dollars. I was absolutely astounded. I remember paying under 100 dollars for that same amount of diesel when I first started trucking.

Now, when we put 200 gallons in our truck, which is roughly 1/2 to 2/3 of what we go through in 5 days, the bill is 1050 dollars. A THOUSAND fucking dollars. Think about that. For one fill up.

Now remember this. You might think "Thank god I don't have to pay for that."

But then remember this. Every single thing you buy, use, drive, live in, wear, watch, eat, you name it, is delivered by truck.

Now I am the last guy to be one of those fear-mongering types. But rest assured. If things keep going the way they are, there will be an economic crash of some kind. When I make my 240 mile drive home, I see big trucks for sale every where I look. And keep in mind that those who own their own truck, called owner operators, make up the majority of the trucking industry. Every week I hear of another company going under. Just last week I heard that Jevic Transportation out of NJ closed their doors. They were one of the better companies to work for as a driver. Been around for years.

So yes. We don't need less bitching about fuel prices. We need more.

I cannot believe there hasn't been a huge outcry from the trucking industry. But, that is due to other facets of the industry that are too long to go in to here. Suffice to say due to rules and regulations changes, years ago there was more power as a whole yielded by drivers.

Because what needs to happen is we all need to park our trucks for 2 weeks. I guarantee you by the end of the first week shelves everywhere would be empty, and the nation would be in turmoil. But it will never happen.

The bottom line is, there is no reason that the United States and Canada should be paying what we do for oil. Between our two countries, we have enough oil to supply ourselves easily. The largest supply in the world, in fact. But Exxon-Mobil keeps on seeing record profits, seeing over 40 BILLION dollars in net profits for 2007.

'Bout time to open that bitch up for North America only. We need to become independent of foreign energy in the very near future.

Hell I am not one to start fear-mongering either, but it's not just the trucking industry about to reap losses, deliveries by air and by sea are also going to start hurting (moreso). And that hurts everyone, you are correct. If people stop flying, I'm out of a job. And it's already started. United Airlines has stopped ordering planes from Boeing, and they won't be the last I'm sure. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out as we get closer to the Election.

Shit yeah. I know man. But god forbid we harm the environment. We might hit a fucking depression, and people will be killing each other in the streets for a bowl of ramen noodles, but the polar bears will be living large.

We need to get our priorities straight.
