different ? about gages

I was talking to a few people and a few shops and everyone says "it would be nice to have" a boost gage. Do I really need it?

If I get it, which I probably will, what other gage should I get? Fuel Pressure or Tach or both?

Now, where do I get it and which one do I get? Been looking at Jegs and Summit and AM. Don't have a clue about gages.

I also liek to have fuel pressure and oil pressure as well, but those arent really needed, just nice to keep an eye on...
But those two listed above are the two essentials...

I'm gonna go with boost, a/f wideband, and fuel pressure when I get my blower for my car.

you want boost obviously to see how much boost your making, your air fuel ratio is extremely important especially when your running f/i or nitrous, and you want wideband because it's nicer to see what your a/f is instead of a gauge that just says lean/stoich/rich, and like what 1ff said is it's nice to keep an eye on fuel pressure and oil pressure.

i was going to go with a boost and one other. I was leaning towards the fuel pressure, but if the air fuel ration is better, then I will do that.

Is the A/F still that important for a s/c 2000 gt?

yes. knowing your a/f in any car that is running a poweradder is extremely important. You don't want to damage anything.

So I take it a gauge is a gauge? It shouldnt have to be for a mustang.....if it measures what I need it to measure, then I am fine hooking it up?

Sorry for all the questions, but I would like to buy and hook up soon. Whats the difference? Why should I go with an electrical over a mechanical?

A/f is electrical
Boost is vacuum ( mechanical )
Nitrous is elctircal
Fuel pres is mechanical/electrical
Oil pressure is mechanical

I always go mechanical with the exception of the ones listed above as it will give you the most accurate readout. I use the electrical ones above becuase you dont want to run a nitrous or fuel pressure line into the cab of the car ( if it leaked you would be in trouble ).

go with autometer and get electrical. The main thing you need is fuel pressure. Everyone likes the a/f guages but everyone i have seen doesn't work really for shit and just jumps around everywhere. And its good to get a boost gauge that way you kinda know what is going on with the blower. I doubt you need a tach, the car already has one. Your boost gauge will be mechanical i think but thats not a big deal, your fuel pressure gauge better be electrical cause the mechanical one your not supposed to run inside of car.

What kinda S/C'er are you gettin'? Centri? Roots?
If you plan of leaving it exactly the way it comes to your door and NEVER plan on cranking the pressure, a boost guage isn't a necessity. Its prolly the coolest guage out there, with the exception of maybe a A/F. Its constantly in motion and provides a very nice distraction lol
Had one in my Evo... That was cool shit watchin' it swing for 20 inches of vaccum to 23PSI in like 2 seconds lol.

Well to answer a bunch of questions....I am running a centri and will be running 10#. I have the 12# but not going to install. 10 is good for now. I guess what I am really asking is do I need any gauges at all. From what it sounds like, I don't, however, I should get Fuel Pressure and Boost....just to monitor. So if the A/F gauge jumps all the time, what the hell would one be looking for? I understand the boost and the fuel pressure....as I would def want to monitor fuel pressure.

If you get a "proper" A/F guage (one that is calibrated for a boost application) its a good investment.
A fuel pressure guage is paramount.
A bost guage will be helpful more-so on a centri. They raise pressure w/ engine speed. If you re-calibrate your ECU to rev higher, you will get more boost.

Like HB said. A A/F gueage is a must. It may even jump around a bit, but it will stay stoich/rich for the most part... If it drops down to lean and hangs out there for a bit you will want to shut her down immediately...
