Decisions....Decisions

So I'm pretty sure on what you guys are going to say, but looking for some opinions. As some of you already know, I did trade my 06 v6 mustang (was in a wreck) for a 08 scion tc (now totalled because i was rear ended). So as you see my luck with cars isn't all that great. But I went to a ford dealership by where I work and they are giving 25% off on 08 mustangs. So there was a silver gt with upgraded interior sticker priced for a little over $27,000. With 25% that makes it only $20,680!!!!! With those payments, I wouldn't have that much money for mods. or I could get a v6 with all the amenities for A LOT less then what I bought my 06!!! But that would leave me with lots of extra $$$ for modding. This vehicle will be my DD so I don't think I would go forced induction. The only thing I would do on the gt is put a catback exhaust to make it sound a lot better. Whichever car I choose, of course it's going to be manual. Test driving that gt was heaven though!!!!

I called my insurance. and somehow my premium goes down $20 a month from a 4 cylinder scion tc to a new 08 mustang gt...don't know how that is...but the lady locked the quote in! So another perk going to the GT.

Get the GT, and save for mods. Stock for stock, the GT is a second and a half faster. That is light years in racing. With a tune and an intake, you're about 2 seconds faster.

Nuff' said.

Or buy a used GT, and have a little bit of mod money.

I vote for the GT, but personally I would probably go with fm1's suggestion. Unless you really want a brand new car, then I say go for it.

I do want a new car...for this reason. The interest rate will be lower. I saw a used 05 gt with 10,000 miles on it for $19,000! The price is pretty consistent all around the orlando area for used s197 gt's with similar miles. So for an extra $1,000 I'm going to get a lower interest rate and a brand new car with no miles on it. Well i take that back it's got 30 miles on it.

Shoot go for it then man I didn't realize there was such a small difference in the two prices. Knowing that, if i was in your position i would pay the little amount more and get the new one also.

$19,000 for a used '05 or $20,680 for a new '08...I'd call that a 'No Brainer".

I love my V-6 but NOT because its a V-6. Does that make sense? A GT is such a better platform down the road with many more "mods" available.

The newer GT may have cheaper insurance than one would think due in part to the fact that it actually has an excellent crash rating.

Also, with with the Scoin, the owners are normally a lot younger and more wreckless believe it or not, than with mustangs. I went from a WRX Wagon (My first 12 second car btw) to the mustang and my insurance went down almost $350 a year.

here's the thing. I'm out of the down payment on my scion since it's totalled. I'm putting money down...so i'm out that. Plus it's an extra $27 per month. So I am paying more then I think I am. But the question is...will I ever find another brand new gt for 25% off MSRP? Part of the reason the dealer is doing this is because there's a $3,000 rebate that they would retain. And the ford loyalty thingy that they retain. But they're still taking more money off so....that's the situation.

The bottom line break, is make sure no matter which direction you go in that you don't over extend yourself with a larger monthly obligation than you can comfortably handle. Even if the car is a great deal, which it sounds like it is, at the end of the day it's not worth it if you wind up struggling with a monthly payment for 4 or 5 years.

I wouldn't be overextending myself...more like second guessing myself right now. I felt the same way when i bought my 06
