Computer Virus

My PC has a virus I think. What do you all think is the best protection for my PC. Should I use McAfee or Nortons. Or is there something better.

Nortons is good...

But for free you are going to have a hard time getting something decent unless someone on here can send you a "trial" copy of something...

I use
Zone Alarm Pro for my firewall
Adware SE for my spyware/adware remover

I have a alot of other protection but I cant remember it right off hand...

Norton offers free downloadable v-scanners ( full trials) or go to www.download.com and search antivirus ...... theres a bunch sort your searches

and for chrisj u should try "spybot search and destroy" it collects the other half that adaware cant find

norton is by far the best their virus database has about 200,000 more confirmed threats then mcaffe you can also for right now go to symantec.com and run their free online scan which should help you alot until you go buy it the onyl ting about norton you only get a 1 year licence but for 30-50 bucks for a year of no viruses that aint bad plus most of the time you can get free upgrades with your origional copy from bestbuy

when you do get it instal it let it do all its updates then disable your system restore which also should clear up a couple of gb's of space on your drive then reboot in safe mode then run the virus scan that way nothing is running then the esentials and it can pick up dormant viruses you can restart the system restore after you reboot from that if you wish

a guy i work with had a few trojans on his laptop so after updating and re-configuring his norton and running it in safemode it didn't pick up on anything, low and behold after i un-installed his norton and installed mcafee 8, it i got 5 hits. have found virii that mcafee wouldn't pick up on... so it is hit or miss, but needless to say if you really think you have a virus or some sort of malicous code on your computer i would burn all of my needed data (pictures/music/office files) to cd-r then restore the computer, remove all of the vendor preloaded crap and re-install all software then defrag and you will be good to go. most people pick up malware from P2P software, porn sites, or warez sites... and were not even talking about rootkits.

ive used numerous things of virus protectors, norton is good, but takes up WAY to much room and can slow down your computer. really no virus protection is safe, you will always be able to get an infected file. my parents friend has norton and spy sweeper that he purchesed and he still gets junk and all.

Everything seems to be okay right now. I really don't keep that much important stuff on my PC.
