In the Hampton Roads area I would not go to court in uniform if you can get away with it, but I believe it is mandatory and I have seen shore patrol at court with sign in sheets for you to check in with them.

I received a ticket for wheeling down 264 on a Tuesday night, got taken to jail and if it weren't for Iraq I would have done the weekend jail sentence for 30days. Might wanna slow it down in this area. They are harsh.

Around here they do, tey also have civil suits now against VA residents, so if you get a reckless driving you get fined and then a civil penalty of 2200 or something. It's ridiculous. I am outta here in a week and back to jacksonville, nc. Not much better there as terms as cops messing with military, but no jail time.

i had to do that back in 2000. i had a court date for an accident, but i was going to be out at sea then. i accidentally ran a stop sign because i couldn't see it. there was a tree at the corner where the sign was and the branches had overgrown the sign. i didn't see it until after the accident. i even went out and took pictures of it to show in court. i called and got it pushed back, even had the command send a letter on command letter head. we came back in 4 weeks later, and i was on duty when YN1 told me that they had a fax from Shore Patrol saying that i didn't show for my court date, and i was tried in absence and found guilty. all i got was a fine, but it was bullshit that i was told i had a continuance and then they screwed me...

yeah but once your outside of the hampton roads area the uniform looks good. i went to court for reckless driving a while back....hell i didn't even have a lisence and the judge was like thank you for what you do and let me go....i don't think its going to be that easy again but.....oh yeah that was in roanoke
