saved a bird!!!

i let my dog out to go to the bathroom and usually she comes back a little bit after but she wasn't at the door. i went outside to see where she was and she was laying by the fence. i thought she was digging so i called her name and she got up and stared at me. i walk over there and i look in the hole and theres a baby bird in there!!

so i took my dog inside, put on some gloves and walked out there, picked it up and put it in our neighbors backyard by the forest that is in their backyard. (its not really a forest its just a BIG bunch of trees)

if its truely a baby bird ands it out of the nest, more than likly the mother has left it for dead...

from the looks of the pic i dont see a nest...

also no matter how you touched it, if the mother WAS to come back, she wont care for the baby anymore... Just getting near the surroundings can do that

oh. well she could sort of fly. and it gives the baby more hope to be out of the hole so it can at least find some food.

if my dog couldve gotten in there she would have. she brought home a chipmunk the other day. my dog is a little shi tzu just turned 1 a couple weeks ago

damn she caught a chipmunk! my dog has been tracking a chipmunk for so long and cant get him. She also thinks she can snag squirrels and birds. She likes owning/being the king of the back yard!

I'm not sure, but that looks like a baby nighthawk...they nest on the ground and it probably wandered into the hole...if you leave in a place away from pets...the mother may find it again...they call eachother.

funny you say that, there's a bird nest down beside our patio not 3 ft away from our chairs. There's a catbirds nest in there and the mother just sits there and watches us. from time to time she'll even sit on a post that we have in the ground thats no more then an arms length away, while we are on the patio
