What I fear is the chebby (if they are not in chapter 11 by then) is going to give this damn thing like 400 HP base, and kick a$$ from there with options (I can see it now LT2 with 500 HP) and blow the doors off the Stang. You'll have to spend $45K on a Cobra just to keep up with a $28K base V8 Camaro, or something insulting like that. Seems like FoMoCo never makes stuff quite as fast as they could/should. I mean, the friggin GTO that looks like total a$$, like a dressed up sunbird or something, has 400 effin HP!! Why not just bow up and give the 05 or 06 stang at least 375, if not 401!! And what's up with 255's from the factory?! That's so ghey! Put some meats on the thing. A pony has to have SHOES! 255's - bah! for sissies! AT LEAST 275's if not more like 295's or 305's. MAKE A STATEMENT, WILLY!! But I'm gone tell ya what - for the right price, I'd break rank and buy that car above. That's hot! They're gonna sell a bunch of those, let me tell you right now!

Here are some more pics. I couldnt dig any info up on the net as far as optons, hp, etc.. But I do remember reading about this car last year and it seemed like they were going TOTAL retro on it. It was supposed to be offered with 2 motor options and a v6 werent one of em. It was supposed to have the option (at the time I read the article) of an LS-1 or an SS with a 502HP 502cid Big Block. They were also supposed to offer two front fascia options, open headlights or hideaways. Just like the first gens.
![]() ![]() And here is the optional hideaway headlights. Im partial to the open lights myself. reminds me of the 69 SS I rode around in with my dad when I was little.

It appears that those are two different bumper designs that they are considering. In anycase, call me crazy but I don't think it looks too bad... not too great either. I dig the pic of the orange one though.

Yeah, I think the orange one is pretty sick myself. I was raised on GM and still have a love for them but I lean more towards the mustang for performance and affordability.
If you look closely you can almost see the body lines of a C6 in there. Its as if they took a c6 and reworked a few angles to make it look like a retro camaro.

What I was referring to in the post actually was the entry level V8's. I just think that a car that looks as smokingly hot and the 05 Stang deserves fatter tires and more power. If not as a base model then at least as an option, like maybe call it GTU or GTE. As good as those cars look, they should have a 375 HP option from the factory along with better tires. 255's on a car that good looking is a waste. Like I said in my post, why not 295's or something? What's that going to hurt? The tire and wheel combo on V8's look like they came off a grocery getter! I drove an 05 GT in the fall of 04, and I will freely admit I came away unilaterally impressed. Those are great cars. Now here comes Chevy, though, and they're going to stuff 500HP in the darn thing.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Camaro in 2008 - Is it Too Late? Author: George Pycik @ 7:46 pm We are expected to see a concept version of what could be a new Chevrolet Camaro at the 2006 Detriot International Auto Show in January. If the car gets the greenlight for production, the earliest it will be made available is 2008. We are wondering…is the Camaro too late? Soon after the demise of the Camaro and Firebird, Ford sparked up some edgy new ideas for its widely popular pony car. One idea included a 390hp supercharged 4.6L engine which it would implant into its Mustang Cobra while the other was the complete [retro] redesign of the Mustang. The redesign would start some sort of nostalgic trend which could continue on for the next several years in the automotive world. After the tremendously good reviews of the retro designed concept Mustang that Ford unveiled at the 2003 North American International Auto Show, everybody and their 25 long-lost distant cousins jumped on the rumor bandwagon. Everyone insisted that both GM and Chrysler were pulling together their own editions of done away nameplates. Whether it be a Camaro, a Firebird, GTO, Charger or Challenger, it felt like something was coming and coming fast. The GM subsidary, Pontiac, was quickly there with their GTO. When the photos spread, many muscle fans were let down. The bold statement offered by the good ol’ gas guzzlers of the late 60’s/early 70’s wasn’t quite there. A year later, Ford put its retro Mustang into the market. The powerful flashbacks caused by the car attracted an overwhelming amount of fanatics to the new edition of the classic. As all this was taking place, Chevy fans were all over the internet, hoping to hear some kind of news related to what could be a new Camaro. As time went on, the chances of seeing a new Camaro went on a complete rollercoaster. Some said executives inside Chevrolet were sure there would be no reincarnation of the car while others were still convinced Chevy wasn’t revealing something. GM slowly revealed a little more about the project, but nothing appeared official until Edmunds.com stated they had learned that GM would unveil a concept version at the 2006 Detriot Auto Show in January. The main problem is whether or not a retro Camaro in 2008 would be too late to record any large sales. By then, the Mustang would be 3 years old and the unusually energetic atmosphere surrounding the car will most likely be faded away. Along with the Mustang, the barely retro Chrysler powers (300, Magnum, and Charger) will also be aging and won’t have any “retro fever” fueling much of their sales anymore. So, can the Camaro sell in 2008? When you think about how long the retro trend has gone on by now (remember…the PT Cruiser is “retro” also), it seems as if it might be able to sell in fairly decent numbers. BUT, everyone must remember it’ll be 3 years late against the Mustang. I can see it now; Ford guys will be picking away at Chevy for being 3 years too late just as they were nearly 40 years ago in a similar situation. The trend is destined to fade away pretty soon and by the end of the decade…I can’t imagine much of it being left. It will be interesting to see whether the Camaro refreshes the retro scene or it falls victim of a fading fad. Finally, I’d like to remind everyone why the Camaro isn’t on the market today. The car wasn’t ousted by GM for no reason. Its sales were horrible compared to its closest competitor, the Mustang and not even the addition of the Firebird’s sales (the Camaro’s closest relative) could make sales any better than a third of the Mustang’s. Maybe the question shouldn’t be whether the Camaro can sell in 2008 and instead be a question of whether GM can market this car to sell more than a sixth of its competitors’ sales. Another GTO? -Ron

we will haf to see what they jump up with with the 06-07 cobra (whenever its coming out). there is talk of it having 400-500 hp. so we will haf to see. the 05 roush has 400. ford needs to lower the price and raise the power. no muscle car man cares much about the eceonomy efficency of a car. MORE POWER. i perfer the new challenger over the camaro.. but to top it off a nasty 05 stang is my formost favorit.

I like it. I think it will become pretty popular once the aftermarket starts going along with it too. It really remids me of a Caddillac CTS or whatever that 2 seater is that Caddy makes.
