looking for a puppy for my daughter

I think she's finally ready for the responsibility. She's been "lobbying" her case with me for months trying to prove she can handle it. I think she's finally ready. I was lloking for a small breed dog that will be easy to keep in the house. In florida, its really too hot to be an outside dog all the time. So I want to get her something small. Also, because small dogs poop smaller and thats a bonus!

I was thinking about a Maltese but they are like $1000. Way out of my budget. Any suggestions? I also like the King Charles Spaniels. If it were complelty up to me and I had a place where it could run, I'd get a boxer. But my 11 year old wants a small dog. Also, anyone know anyone trying to give away a small dog that needs a good home with "Jasonic?????

i have had my share of dogs and i have to say the best that i have ever had was the yellow lab that i have now. sweet and listens. hardly barks.

puppy training and a pinch collar are necessities for any dog IMO.

we have a maltese, if you guys are first time dog owners don't get it. A HUGE pain in the butt, very hard to potty train, look up the wikipedia article blah blah blah.

My dog is a sheltie, very loyal, easy to potty train, listens well, like numer 6 on smartest dogs, that's what I think you should get, they're like mini lassies.

Best thing you can do is take your daughter down to your local shelter and let her pick out a small breed puppy for adoption. You'll be doing the little pooch a big favor.

I want to get her something very small. Thats what she wants anyway. I dont have a good place for a big dog to run and be happy. I used to have a boxer/pit mix and he was awesome. But at the time,I lived in a house with a big fenced in yard. We need a small "more calm" dog now. It seems like the best breeds cost the most. I dont have a grand to spend on a dog. I think I will check the shelter out. Maybe there is one thats house trained and would make a good fit with us.

Human Society! Go there and look at the dogs.

I have a Shitzu Maltese Mix. haha i cant even spell it. And he was no 1000 dollars. i think he was 400. We love him. He was house broken with in weeks. he Listens when food is evolved, but he is getting better at listening when its not evolved. he is full of energy and loves people. I am pretty happy with our decision to get this type of dog. i really like the bigger dogs, like labs, German Shepard's, retrievers etc but small dogs are just as nice to have. most small dogs dont Shed, non alergetic, She can hold it!. she will love a dog no matter what one you end up choosing,
my dog weights i think 13lbs now that he is full grown.

But check out your local human society center if you dont want to get a dog from a breeder. If you get one from the human society they may be harder to house break but im sure you can do it.

i think you getting your daughter a dog is a great idea. they do teach responsibility, thats for sure.

shelties are small, mine is relatively huge for his breed at only 30 pounds, usually they stay around the low 20's. but yeah, almost all small dogs are expensive for some reason. golden retriever was the least, sheltie the middle, and maltese was the most

take her to adopt one and tell her how she is helping out and all by taking him in so he has a chance to live and not thrown in the burner after they knock him off

we have a toy fow terrier. she's tha smartest dog i've ever had, minds better than the kids. we like them because they are a slick haired dog so shedding is absolutely minimal. and being like any other terrier, she'd thinks she 10 foot tall and bullet proof when it comes to protecting the family. she weighs 7 pounds.

If I HAD to get a small dog, I'd get a Beagle, do love Beagles. However, we had a Yellow Lab that was the perfect dog, but he died like 2 years ago, now we have a Black Lab, again well behaved and docile. He's also kind of afraid to be outside by himself, pretty funny.

IMO, you can never have a better dog than a German Shepherd.
