I have a question about this. Besides the medal itself, does the family recieve anything else for this honor (such as additional financial compensation or something). NO, Im not being shallow or anything, Im just curious if we take care of the family in any other way for the heroism that leads to a dead child.

If his insurence is like mine then they will receive 450,000 for him dying.. That is a staddard policy for military troops..

yes they receive his insurance, his kids get his GI bill ( college money) and the entire family ( immediate) gets free dental and health care for the rest of their lives.

my prayers are with his family

If a military member dies in the line of duty, the immediate family is eligable for death gratuity. Also, if ithe military member elects to have SGLI (term life insurance) they are covered up to $450,000.

im sure most people on here can tell theres a close bond between service members, even though we have never met. hell doc fronted me almost $600 for my m90 kit, and we have never met... some say it takes one hell of a man / woman to do that selfless act, but being around your fellow brothers and sisters like that, the decision is pretty damn easy.

RIP

no amount of money can ever be compensation for the loss of a son/father/brother etc

If it came to dying for my squad then I would do it in a heartbeat.. One dead son, father, brother, cousin is better then 8 or 10.. I am not a marine but I am in a combat MOS nonetheless and I would go down for my team without thinking twice about it. When we give our oath to defend and provide selfless service some of us take it to heart and live by it.. I did not join the military for the money because as everyone knows there are many MANY MANY
things that pay better.. This man is a hero and deserve the metal of honor and I don't give a flappin, flyin, floatin fuck what anyone else says about it..
