Garage Door Opener

the wife and i are in the process of buying a house and our real estate agent is getting us a garage door opener as a housewarming gift. he told me to pick one out and let him know so he can have it installed before we move in. now, i don't know the first thing about garage door openers. anyone have any input?

get a commercial grade (heavy duty) one...they last longer.

Ive helped my dad out on a few jobs doing garage doors and Genie seems to be a very popualr choice.

There are different types, There is gear driven ones, and Chain driven ones, the chain ones I THINK are a little louder, thats what I have in my garage , my grandpa has a gear driven one and you cant even hear it open, then again I like the loud so I know if someone is opening my garage .

I have one made by Overhead Door or something like that, that is a screw drive. It's pretty nice. Works fine.

i vote quite over speed... that way you can sneak in when your 15 year old son is having sex in his room and catch him in the act, instead of startling them with a loud door

buy the brand "overhead door" preferably from the myrtle beach store. My great uncle owns it so you can help him make a little money

Andrew's link is a good one. I have a Genie 1/2 HP from home depot. works great and is pretty quiet. Find the quiet ones. Also, have him add in a key pad on the outside of the garage......they are money!
