Am I getting screwed?

My little brother hit a deer with my 93 Toyota T100. I had Liability insurance only (was in iraq) so it's not covered. Took it to the Body Shop of a guy known by a family member and got an estimate of $4500 (!). The truck has 140k miles and only blue books for $3500 so decided to salvage it. The guys neighbor is a mechanic and offered to buy it for $500. The body shop guy told me it was a good deal because usually salvage only goes for 10% of the value. I have never sold (or bought) a salvaged vehicle so I don't know if this is a good deal or not. The truck still runs well and everything worked except the A/C before it was wrecked.

The reason I am wondering if he is rippin me off is I hit a dear before EXTREMELY hard (enough to put the bumper through the radiator and almost touching the engine) and it was only $4100 and I looked up average salvage and saw a couple different answers saying 25-50% of Blue book and one saying blue book minus fixing cost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

pics? 4500 sounds like alot unless the frame is bent or something serious is busted

Sounds like you're getting screwed to me. There's a lot of people that really like those T100s, and even salvaged, if it's drivable, it's worth more than $500. Unless the frame is bent, I'd tell them to park your truck and not touch it 'til you get back.

I have some pictures but they aren't the best. It didn't bend the frame but did mess up the radiator mount on one side pretty badly. He gave me a quote of 2g for parts and the rest for labor.

Does you brother have insurance, because if he has more than liability you can file it under his insurance since he was driving...

damn that frame is fuck but it can be fix but for that much money u got screwed

i bought my stang for $2000 and it got hit by a deer before i got it but all i had to do was change the door and fender and repaint it and i did it all myself

its easy to get new parts for the truck it will be cheaper if u do it yourself. u will feel happy and it will get done quicker
