I saw one company that makes replica's of P-51's but the most HP they offer is an LS-7, the original WW2 Mustangs had 1,450hp and who knows how much torque out of that RollsRoyce engine.

Love those old warbirds. One of the greatest thigns I've ever done was fly in a WW2 fighter out at the Suffolk Municipal Airport. I don't remember what the plane was, but it was a two-seater fighter/bomber. I wanna say it was a Dauntless, but I'm not sure. It was the smoothest flight I'd ever been on in a fixed wing aircraft.

If you live in Virginia or NC, in the Hampton Roads area, there's a guy who goes around the east coast and sells flights on his plane, in 15-minute increments, but they lat longer than that. Mine was a 2-hour flight. Keep an eye out in the newspaper, or call the Fighter Factory out at the airport in Suffolk. The Fighter Factory rebuilds and restores WW2 aircraft, and the last time I was out there, they were working on a Flying Fortress.

If you ever have the chance to ride along in one, do it. You'll never forget it.

I did a big story on the Memphis Belle and when I showed up to take pictures they let me inside the plane and let me crawl through the whole thing and the pilot of it showed up and answered alot of questions fr me.

If I ever get the $$$ some day, I'm getting a replica P-51 but I want more than just an LS-7 in it.... Maybe a Whipple 5.4 4v instead Plan to get my pilot's license from a friend of mine back at home.

Always loved the p-51 and the p-47...but all time fav ww2 fighter aircraft would have to be the f-4u corsair.

Overall fav. plane is the c-130...just love how versitile of an aircraft it is....jump seats suck as though lol.

I got a flag flown for my dad while is was in Qatar on a B-1B. Aircraft did a mission over afghan, had a payload of 12 GBU-38s and 8 GBU-31s. Aircraft normally comes back a little lighter lol.

Your talking about a hell of a lot of money...not just in purchasing the aircraft...safety certs and all that other fun stuff add up real quick.

If your looking into getting your pilots license on a budget, check out the sports aviators license.

Oh to the OP, sorry for geting off topic...

To think about what the Military Aviators of the past had to endure is beyond baffling.
