Road & Track mag - Camaro

Saw a short little blurb on the 2010 Camaro V6. The V6 will have 300hp, 315 tq. I know the 350z vs has that power too. Why do our Mustangs need a V8 for that? I considered a 350z and test drove one - great car but I wanted a stang. While the 350 was fast, I did miss the V8 growl, but hell...

Does this bother anyone else?

well in either 2010 or 2011 the new stang is speculated to have a v6 boosted to 300 hp with twin turbos and a gt running in the 400hp range

The Camaro will also probably weigh around 3800 lbs or so.

If Ford steps up with a better product, that's great. But ya can't just keep upgrading with every new model year that come out - at least I can't!

It just had me wondering why the competition had to do it first when you know they always had the ability.

Love my 05 and it's the car I'll be sticking with over the years to build up. Also happens to be the first and only Ford I've ever owned. Just ranting I guess.

Cars are like computers and electronics. There will always be something better coming down the pike. If you were to let it get to you, you'd be buying a new car every 2 years. Which is fine if you're loaded, but if you're like me, and it takes you 17 years to pay a car off, then that becomes an issue.

lol

peak hp numbers sell cars. 300 hp on a v6, its probably all up top, at what rpm? what is the torq? what is the overall power curve. what is the drivetrain lose. There are so many factors that go into this that it doesnt even matter. A jag xk8 had 300hp, it wont come close to keepin up with a stock mustang gt.

No it doesnt bother me. The stang is what it is. the best car for the money period and will stay that way when the camaros come out. for 2000 dollars you can have your stang at 400 crank hp. Its a car that will continue to shine and sell which means aftermarket parts readily available for cheap prices.

Camaros failed, a couple of times i dont get why so many on this site thinks chevy has some succesful business model, and ford should follow, follow what finacial loses and discontinued models! should we at least wait until the camaro is succesful with more then HP numbers, like maybe it sells profitably and is affordable enough to appeal to a large market. mustangs have always had less hp then camaros, didnt mean much at the track or on the streets, and one car is selling like crazy and one car hasnt made a profit since nixon was the president and hasnt even been made in 7 years. This is no different then the 5.0 agains the 5.7, ford didnt need cubes to win then. Yea ford needs to rethink itself on the mustang. then after that maybe they should scrap the f150.

DETROIT (AP) -- Cruising the boulevard may never be the same. Two of America's favorite sports cars are nearing the end of the blacktop.

General Motors announced Tuesday the 2002 model year will be the last for the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird.

The Ste. Therese, Quebec, assembly plant where they are produced will close next September.

GM blamed the demise of the Camaro and Firebird on a 53 percent decline in the sports car market since 1990. Even the muscle cars were not strong enough to beat back the growth in popularity of sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks.

SWOT Analysis - To Make Your Business More Profitable More than 4 million Camaros have been sold since it was introduced in 1967. Its peak year was 1978 when 260,201 were sold, but last year sales dwindled to just 42,131.

The Firebird's best year was 1978 when 175,607 were sold. In 2000, though, sales were just a tad over 31,000.

"The Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird have truly become an integral part of the American culture over the years," said John Middlebrook, GM vice president and general manager of vehicle brand marketing.

He said the automaker will be celebrating the cars with a 35th Anniversary Edition Camaro and a Collector Edition Firebird Trans AM.

The cars will not be directly replaced, but the new Chevrolet SSR, available next year, is expected to attract some Camaro and Firebird buyers. The vehicle is a cross between a roadster and the now extinct cult favorite El Camino.

Pontiac will offer the new Vibe GT, Bonneville SSEi and supercharged Grand Prix GTP.

The Ste. Therese plant opened in 1965 and has built the Chevrolet Celebrity and Monza, and Pontiac Grand Prix along with the Camaro and Firebird.

Most of its 1,065 hourly employees are eligible for retirement, as well as 380 employees currently on lay off, said Maureen Kempston Darkes, GM of Canada Limited president and general manager.

"This is an extremely painful and difficult decision," Darkes said. She said the company tried to find an alternative to continue manufacturing at Ste. Therese, but was unable to find one.

here is just sales numbers for 2000. just in 2000 mustangs crushed total camaro sales from 98 to 02. i doubt ford will listen to needing to go back to a push rod engine with more cubes. If they even talk about it, ill sell my stock. that would be retarded.

Except for new fender badges and the usual minor tweaks, the Mustang carried over for 2000. A limited run of 300 "Cobra R" models were produced this year powered by a 5.4-liter, iron-block version of the DOHC, 32-valve engine rated at a massive 385 horsepower. Stripped of such niceties as air conditioning and a backseat, and carrying a $55,845 price, the Cobra R sold out in no time at all. For the first time since 1989, Ford sold more than 200,000 Mustangs — a total of 215,393 found homes in 2000.

also funny that GM blamed the demise of the camaro on people buying 4 bangers and 6 cylinders but ford sold more stangs in 2000 then they had in 11 years. I think GM is the company in denial not Ford. Just my 2 cents.
