Bubba, i work on the the machines that give the radiation therapy, you will be surprised at how awesome they are and how much they can take out the tumors. And the good thing is its pretty much painless.

The stats for a mortality in this kind of Cancer is around 1 in 75,000.

and a word of advice for the port-a-cath. Ask for the Elma cream. it will numb the skin around the port so you won't feel a thing when they stick you. Apply it at least 2 hours prior to being stuck.
If you have ANY questions please feel free to talk to me. I worked a Onc clinic for some time and I know the ropes about pre/post care and dieting among other things.

Start drinking ensure now. It will keep your energy up.

thanks man.. they did say something about giving me that elma cream before they access the port

and good thinking on the ensure.. i'll have to give that a shot.. i have DEFINITELY noticed a decrease in energy.. can't walk 20 feet without having to sit down and take a break lol

You get to have Ambient after the port is implanted.

and the pre chemo drugs you will be on will most likely be Benadryl and compazine.

Bubba, this port is the exact same one my wife had in her chest for 4 weeks. I have a picture of it if you want to see it man. My wife describes it as no feeling at all when she had any of hers put in. She has had 4 of them put in, one in her femoral vein in her inner thigh, and the other 3 where you sound like you are getting yours. They have always frozen the area for her, and she says there was no pain whatsoever.

She did just now say that perhaps because she has breasts maybe it was more comfortable.

So if you can grow some boobs between now and then, you're set bro.
