Here we go! Mad Rush to finish!!!!

Picked these up today!

I will have it assembed tonight most likely. If need be, It will be late tommorow night for the short block to be done. Depends on if I will need to borrow a ring filer.

But Forged Rods now too instead of the stockers... the stock ones were rebuilt rods, which would not have handled the power I am going to make.

Tommorow afternoon, Mike is going to have me come over off the books, and we are going to disassemble the heads clean them and make sure they are ready for the engine! I will soon have an engine together!

But now its off to work!

Yeah something like 128 grams out of each side....

Anyway

I built my first short block today!!!

Here are the pictures...

I took the larger gapped rings, and put them to the back of the motor... since the back of the motor is the hottest, that means the ring expands and then the gap will close...

I have torqued everything using Mike's calibrated Snap On torque wrenches.

I used lots and lots of assembly lube too. Tommorow Mike is going to let me use his Lifter bore dial indicator so I can degree my cam. The bottom end is completely done except for bolting on the Oil Pump and putting the oil pump drive shaft in...

I also went to Mikes today, and we took the Heads apart, cleaned them up, and also put a new valve seal in there. The umbrella type seals (most new heads come with) they dont work well at all... so i got some really nice ones that are going to work much nicer. That means no blow by and no oil spark plugs.

All in all a long day (also ran cable in the attic so the upstairs rooms can have TV)

Thanks guys....

Cam is degreed... 101º on a 100º ICL on my cam card... close enough for me... but tommorow I got to do a few things around the house... but then can work on the engine for a solid two hours... I assume I will get the top end all done on it...all I will have to do then is do the water pump and all of that crap... but i got to leave around 2 with the trailer and the old car to go racing... so may not be ready til saturday to drop it in place....

Have not had much time to work on it.... also ran into a few snags...

Heads are on... oil pan is on... everything is going smoothly up til now. Got the timing cover cleaned and ready for paint. I got a new water pump and radiator hoses today.

I did run into a snag though... cant find the guide plates for the push rods, and also cannot find one set of rocker studs... (got moved around when company came into town, and mom and I cannot remember where we put them)

I also need longer push rods. So i will be overnighting those items from summit.

Thinking of painting the block red, and everyhting else flat black and leaving the intake....

here is what she looks like mocked up.

Well got alot done today...

Lots of trips to the hardware to pick up bolts, but other than that, not too bad....

I do have a few issues... The belhousing cracked at the guide dowels.

Dont know the issue on that, looks like I may have to buy a new belhousing. What do you guys think?

Also once the tranny was on the engine, it was so much harder to roll over using the crank bolt and a 3 foot braker bar it still barely moved. Although I did get it to do once whole rotation of the crank, it was really tough at times and then the next 25 degrees would just fly right by. What would cause that? Is that normal?

So what are your guys thoughts about the belhousing? And is it possible that because its tweeked its hard to roll the engine over?

And here she is to test to make sure it fit, and the steering worked with it. It will have to be moved back to the rearward slot, which is about an inch back, but everything will work.

This is what my transmission pump gear set is suppost to look like....

here is what it does look like....

This is what happens when you rush things....

So now i got to get a new pump or a new set of gear drive.... hopefully i can find one tommorow.....

guess one of the things we heard cracking was the pump gears and not just the belhousing.

Lesson learned.... dont force things....

So racing tomorrow is not possible nor is it saturday... but wednesday is a good chance now.

Well have not updated for a while...

BUT

Motor is back in, tranny is mounted up (both Mikey and I have been working on that). Going to stab the distributor in (we broke the gear after tacking the shaft into place to lock it out, so i have the distributor in the freezer and going to heat the new gear til i can just slide them on)

But then its wiring the wires up, putting water in the car, putting tranny fluid in it, and wiring up the coil and distributor. Then running the tranny lines and try and light the fire.... damn does that carb drop alot of fuel though....

We primed the oil pump... and the drill started to fry and slow down, but it made 65 pounds of pressure with a 3/8s drill spinning the oil pump...

Summit's starter didnt work so they sent me a new one, it came today. Got a 95 GT radiator in it, and my hard core catch can.
