So he started complaing on the ride back from school that it had hardly any pedal response and felt very 'laggy'

Take a quick listen to it and tell me what you think it is. Vaccumm leak possibly?

its a honda that has no torque he will never have pedal response.

try cleaning out the air filter or get a CAI hondas tend to have like 30 feet of intake tubing and that normally helps alot

You didnt hear what sounds to be farting when the engine is slowing down? It sounds like a vibration coming from the valve cover...

He used to own a Mach an totaled it out so he bought a gasser and is wanting a new car as it is...

Nope. Car is COMPLETELY stock. It's a 2005 Accord coupe automatic with 35,000 miles

Basically. I even noticed it. I asked him if it had always made that noise and he piped up and said I was wondering that too. 'It's new to me.' SO we checked it out.

Yea actually I did hear that. I was going to comment on it but thought it may be normal. You had mentioned a vacuum leak so I was more in tune listening for that.

As far as the farting noise.....it almost seems like (from the vid) that the cover plastic is loose. Take that cool vtec thing (worth 30 hp) off and take a look for backed out bolts, loose things vibrating....etc. If nothing there, I don't think it is the valves as they would be making sounds at all times. Maybe the valve cover is loose. still. Check the easy stuff first obviously. Worst case, bring it into the shop.

all variable valve timing engines make that sound mine does it too it is the exhaust valves overlapping the intake valves since the car isnt in (well his case) vtec so it is in escentially gas saver mode. have him rev till vtec click over and you wont her it till it gets below the vtec engagement Rpm. he needs a header and an intake and itll make his pedal slop less noticeable

is the throttle sticking somewhere? the throttle is laggy you say and there is a vibration and sound like that? Doesn't make much sense. How many miles and how old? Maybe new plugs/tune up?

Seriously tell him to get rid of that snaked up intake, and he will notice a good difference.
