Join the National Guard and you can bet on a tour in either Iraq or Afghanistan. All 50 states' Guard units have deployed at least twice, some more than that. And there's troops there now who don't support the war. But they do like the job stability that the military provides, so they put up with it. In the military, you have to take the good with the bad.

I took a $300 a week pay cut from repo'ing cars and driving a wrecker when I went active duty Army, but until I was forced out due to a knee and spinal injury, it was stable income and free travel. If you are even considering switching to active duty or think you might be eventually interested, join the Army Reserves. AR has the exact same jobs as the Army, and transitioning to Active Duty takes alot less time and effort. Guard has different rules that Army Reserves...they don't like to give up their people.

what about the coastguard? I almost joined when i started college, than i was going to go into officers school. Decided at the last minute not to but they would have paid for school as well as giving me a certain amount of money ontop of that. not a bad deal i think
