Dang, so close!

Reported to my real unit for the first time since being back from BCT/AIT this weekend. And guess what, we had weapon qualifications with the M16. I was kind of nervous...havent shot in months. They handed me a brand new M16. Went to the range saturday morning....very cold and wet as most of you know! Nothing like Fort Leonard Wood in June/July.

After waiting in line for 4+ hours to zero my weapon, it was finally my turn. shivering cold and shakey...I grouped and zeroed my first six rounds and they told me to go qualify...I was glad i didnt have to adjust my sights or anything...they were dead on for me.

so after waiting about an hour longer and getting colder, i was still quite nervous about what my score would be...I went up, shot, and knew i did well. Here is how i did

I shot 18/20 from the prone supported
7/10 from the prone unsupported
and 10/10 from the kneeling position

35/40

SO CLOSE TO EXPERT!!! (36+)
had it been a little warmer, i might have got it...but I'm excited about the 35, it's better than what i did in basic.

Oddly enough, it isn't the 300 meter target that gets me...It's the 250 or 275 targets. lol

I got 41/40 when I did rifle the first time...

I thanked the guy next to me for helping me get expert, and offered to split my marksman ribbon with him.

Ha, thats funny...I can remember guys busting the wrong target when I was in basic.

So what kind of target where you shooting at and how far?

They were the pop up "Ivans". the targets ranged from 50m to 300m.

Same thing you do for Basic in the Army.

thats really good man! I shot a 39/40 in basic and then again in Crotia! but a couple other times i think i shot like 34 or 35...was a long time ago...i miss that shit man! When we were at Camp Demi in Croatia we would go to the range every other week just for the hell of it really...have you gone to the 50 cal range yet? that shit is fun with the tracer rounds!

let me rephrase....alot of duty station ranges are ran completely different then basic

lets just say theirs never a no go, they did what they needed to do to pass u

night ranges are the best haha........aim for the chem light!!!!!

They did that to us since we were considered an attacment when we went to Croatia...i think thats totall bullshit though...what if your in a firefight with someone who shouldnt have passed in the first place...knowatem saying mang

no they passed, it wasnt like u hit 3 total here will add 30 to itsome shot 3-4 times untill they could pass

but again its all on the platoon running the range, they could be hardass' at times

we had the m4/m16,9mm,.50cal,mk19,m203,m249,shotgun......so we had alot of ranges
