Mechanics Gloves
So the other day, after my miserable defeat with the clutch quadrant, I hung out with my girlfriend. Well as we were talking, she started looked at my hands and asked "What happened?"
I said, "What the scratches? Those are from working on the car." Basically it ended up with me telling her that that's basiocally what happens when you work on a car. Flesh becomes a luxery and your car lieks to feed on it ![]() Anyway, she said she might look into getting me Mechanics Gloves for Christmas along with a few other things. How many of you guys use these, what is a decent brand that I can steer her in, and can you still FEEL the bolts and stuff? Like when your backing a nut or bolt out by finger, can you still feel it as though there wasnt a glove there?

Just make sure they fit very well, a glove that is too big will lead to you not being able to feel anything.
For just dirty jobs good old latex gloves work great for keeping the grease and fluids off of you. For tough work and scratches I use these purple gloves, just the palm and fingers are dipped in a antislip rubber and they work great. They are flex tough. |

Used religiously. They act like a second skin and can keep from getting fingers smashed or caught in big turbo's and whatnot. For the greasy jobs, I use the Diamond Grip latex gloves. The only thing that eats them up is diesel/jet fuel. I hate dirty hands, and a woman won't let you touch them with dirty hands.

I get them for free at work. They are my favorite work gloves, I use them for everything. My hands got to the point where I would open them and they would start bleeding. The fit is great, almost like your not wearing any gloves at all. I even brought a pair to Iraq LOL

these are the ones I use, I usually get my hands cut without them.
![]() and I like flexfit better cuz I would get important phone calls or need to do things without the gloves so its a quick way to take off and put on.

I try to use them but almost always take them off... I can't stand it. The only time I actually leave them is when I'm doing a brake job or something where my hands are black by the time I'm done. Either that or I'm using mylar gloves when I'm trying to keep something from getting my dirty finger prints on it.

Right...use them once. The military is big on them. And we get them supplied to us by Army Materiel Command. Gloves cut down on workman's comp claims for chemical burns and other injuries. Since i started wearing gloves to perform auto repairs and other things, I have ceased to have reactions to chemicals, and dry, cracking, and bleeding hands during the winter are a thing of the past. And you can wash the Mechanix Gloves in the laundry. Last edited by fairlane_68; November 17th, 2008 at 08:39 PM. Reason: spelling fail |

Chemical burns are something I haven;t had to experience yet, but most of that would not be involved with car work. Most dangerous fluid would have to be either brake fluid or anitfreeze, niether of which irritated my skin at all.

Nope. No shrinkage.
Think of it productivity wise. Wear gloves, spend less time cleaning, more time driving, or, from a technician's point-of-view, the customer gets their car back sooner and you get paid faster. |
