Right now the only new car that has any interest for me is the 370Z (200 lbs lighter than the 350Z? Yes, please!), and maybe the Toyota/Subaru joint project that's supposed to come out in a couple years. But I'm pretty prepared to be disappointed by the latter.

They've got the right engine to do it with (The Mazdaspeed 2.3L Turbo - with mild tweaks, they could easily release it with 300hp stock), but that won't happen until the GT is making more than it's current 315hp.

ford has to think of something. whether it's drastically cutting weight or bringing back the 5.0. they're not going to be able to compete with GM's 2 new muscle cars.

That's the one

I've heard a LOT of rumors regarding it, most of which pretty obviously crap. The things I've heard that seem to ring with the most truth are that the Toyota version will be RWD while the Sube will be AWD, that it will be using a subaru boxer engine, most likely under 2.0L (I keep hearing 1.8L). Turbo will most likely be an option.

In the land of $5/gallon gas, which are people going to choose? The 450hp 4000lb car that gets 20mpg on the highway, or the 350hp 2800 lb car that gets 30mpg on the highway?

Just wanted to ask, where in the world are you that gas is $5 a gallon?
You can get 3 gallons for that...

I definately agree that Ford should do some weight reduction and needs to beef up the engine but Chevy is definately lucky that gas prices have gone down so so much otherwise, nobody would be buying the heavy, ass 6.2L Slo-maro.

Oh, not right now. But gas always goes up in the summer, and back down during winter, except for a couple price increases around the holiday travel weekends.

Next summer it'll be back up, not necessarily to $5/gallon, but it will certainly be back up to $4 and change.

The gas prices have nothing to do with actual supply, but perception of supply. That's why big finds aren't going to drop the price of gas.

But totally realistic. Nissan's DOHC 3.5L V6 makes just over 300hp, Hyundai's DOHC 3.8L V6 makes around 300hp, Toyota's 3.5L DOHC V6 makes over 300hp... need I go on?

Not sure what you mean. I thought you were saying that the 300hp from the new Camaro sixxer was "estimated", implying that you thought it was too high. Had nothing to do with the weight of the vehicle it was put in - I was just talking about engine output for DOHC V6s.

Ford really needs to stop dicking around with iron blocks and SOHC engines. I mean, they made an OHC FE motor 50 years ago! Even the LSxs are all aluminum, as are the b- and c-port Cobra motors, so what's the excuse for these iron blocks? It's not strength, as the Teskid aluminum blocks are 10+ years old, and they're good to power levels that almost no Mustang ever sees.
