spending a few bucks

i'm gonna spend a few bucks on my computer, it's 4 years old. i'm either gonna upgrade it to 1 gig or get a wireless keyboard. my computer as of now has 2 cards that make 512mb. i can upgrade to two 512mb cards for about $60 or spend the same on a keyboard. any suggestions?

you can get more memory for less money that 60

here is 2gb for 40, or 15.99 if you do the mail in rebate...

What kind of stuff are you looking to do? If you don't need the RAM, then I'd look at other stuff first. I was having some slowing issues on my computer and went and picked up one of those registry cleaners and it's put it back at usual running pace, though I'm definitely due for a RAM upgrade. One of these days I'll just gut it out and start new, I think I'm close to maxed out on my current motherboard though

you also have to take into account how much ram your motherboard can handle.

i was told two 512mb cards is the most i can do with my computer. it's a compaq presario 1050

Your running windows XP right? You can run a maximum of 3.XXX gig's. So you could get two, two gig sticks but it would only recognize about 3.5 gig's of it. Your best bet is just to go with 2 gig's of whatever speed ram your computer can handle. Probably PC800 or so DDR2.

xp will recognize 3.XXX gigs, but the motherboard will also have a hardware limit to which you can only upgrade to a certain point.

that's what i was told which was only 1 gig. they only had 1 of the 512mb cards in stock so i got the wireless keyboard. i'm not disappointed at all. it's nice to be able to kick back in my recliner and not have any wires. this will give me a chance to research my computer and find out if 1gig is really all i can do

ok, i just found out the chucklhead at nebraska furnature mart misinformed me. my computer is upgradable to 2 gigs, not just 1. i'm glad i didn't get those 2 x 512mb cards that day. everything happens for a reason
