Convertible Top Replacement

hey, i've got a 97 vert and it's getting the top replaced by a shop within the next couple of weeks. i couldn't find any info on price estimates or anything when i searched before i decided to replace it, so i figured i would post what i found out for someone else.
the guy is replacing the entire top, with back piece and heated glass for $1200 plus tax. it sounds like a lot, and it is...but that was actually the middle price of the 3 estimates i got. the others were $900 plus tax and $1350 plus tax. i went with the middle guy because he wasn't the most expensive and i had gotten a recommendation for him.
i should be handing over my car next weekend, and it'll take him 3-4 days to finish the job. i'll post back when its done to let you guys know what kind of job he did.

btw, 1st post...but i've been reading the forums for a while and learned a lot. so thanks and i hope i've contributed a little!

Can you post some before and after pics? that would be cool. I always wondered what the price range would be. Eventually, mine will need replaced.

BTW- do you put any "conditioners" or anything on your top?

Welcome to the Forums!

I'm originally from Ohio too. Toledo...

i'm getting mine done in a couple weeks too. by the most reputable shop in NE ohio. its on my 87 GT, 950 tax and all. rear curtain w/glass, the top and new pads. 1-2 day install. as you can see my car is white, you guys think i should go with a white top or a black one? i like both and can't decide. thats the only reason its not done yet! LOL! i'll start another thread with before and after pics! so......black or white top?..............the car is white with black trim, white seats, red and white interior and some black interior trim.

yeah i can post pics after it's done.
i haven't used conditioners because i've only had the car since march, and the top has been in bad condition the whole time. i'll probably find some way to take care of the new one though...i don't want it going bad.

i realize that i didn't pay the greatest price for the job, but i needed it done by winter, and 90% of the money is a gift from my grandparents.

mark, where are you getting yours done? i'm in NE ohio too. and my advice would be to definitely go black. it would look great and be much easier to maintain.

in Trumbull county, right outside of Warren in Cortland. i'm going to TNT, Tims-N-Terior and Trim. really good place to go. VERY reputable. he does all kinds of classics and muscle cars, boats, everything.

Go with black. White looks "girly" imo. It seems like Ive seen more white ones in bad shape. They seem to show their age more.

I used to work in Brecksville out that way. Thats a beautifull area in the summer months. I miss the Flats!

i got the stang back wednesday, it looks great! really fantastic. plus no leaks ;]
so it seems it was worth the trouble. except my car smells like smoke now, the guy was a heavy smoker. it's not a big deal though.
i can post pics if you guys really want them. it looks just like it should though, pretty much what you'd expect.

on a side note...when i picked the car up the guy had disconnected my battery because my fan was consistently running...even with the keys out and everything, and the engine was cold. he couldn't figure out the problem so he unhooked the battery. i
was concerned, but i just hooked it back up and drove it home...and the fan isn't a problem anymore. i have no idea why this happened but hopefully it doesn't come back o.O
