i saw an srt8 challenger at the track last weekend. It ran a best of 13.8. I got paired up with him once and it was glorious seeing him in the staging lanes after i beat him by 8 tenths in a bolt-on Mustang GT on 20s

Very good for the first time out! Seat time is the best mod in my view.
get yourself a CHE k-member brace and torque limiters and a STS (MGW or Pro 5.0) and that will solve your 2-3 shift issue IMHO.
