Took the new C6 to the track...

...just thought some Mustang guys might be interested in an honest time slip from a bone stock C6 Corvette. Keep in mind that I've only had the car 2 weeks, so I'm definitely not going to be the fastest C6 driver out there.

The track sits at 423 above sea level. Temps were in the high 90's with high humidity and moderate winds.

The car is a showroom stock 2009 A6, 2.73 axle. It weighed in at 3440lbs with me and a 1/2 tank of gas (3200 lbs empty).

I did not change tire pressure or even heat the tires at all, I drove around the water box and never spun the tires.

I ran 4 times and my ET improved each time a little. My first run I launched from an idle and floored it, after that I loaded the RPM's a little (up to about 1500 or so) and just let off the brake and floored it. Never any tire spin to worry about, if it spun it was minimal and very brief.

Traction control off, transmission is "Sport" mode and I let it shift (no paddles).

My best run is listed below:

R/T .147
60' 2.042
330 5.475
1/8 8.253
MPH 88.64
1000 10.630
1/4 12.611
MPH 113.2

Well, you can outrun me, but that doesn't mean you can outrun any stock C6 Corvette. I'm running a 12.6 in 90+ degree weather having owned the car for 2 weeks. But there are 2 guys on the Corvette Forum who have run high 11's showroom stock. I don't know what the weather conditions were, but they are obviously much better drivers than me with their cars.

One big difference in the Corvette and my Mustang is the gearing and where the power starts to come on strong. My Mustang (with 4.10's) was a beast off the line, but past the 1/8 mile the lack of displacement really starts to show. The Corvette (with 2.73's) isn't as violent off the line, but by 60 MPH it is quickly leaving most cars behind.

Even so, my best time on the '08 GT with stock tires & 3.55 gears, CAI and tune was an 8.84, and the C6 already ran a 8.25. I think this is mainly due to the automatic C6 being so much easier to launch than the manual GT.

If you catch a C6 driver napping off the line you have a good chance of leaving him behind, but you better watch out from a roll.

The Corvette's weakling IRS is a major problem when it comes to launching the car hard...I'm afraid to run drag radials or a big stall because I don't want to be snapping half shafts. Mustang wins big time when it comes to rear ends and drag racing, since the Challenger, Camaro, Corvette, GTO, etc... all have crappy IRS setups.

Will do, we really need to hit the 1/4 mile track. You'll need a helmet (and long pants) at Dallas Raceway if you're going to run in the 12's.

Nice to hear from someone that's been on both sides of the fence!
And congrats on the Vette!

Had to be a serious negitive DA to get a stock vette in the 11's, sorry but I would love to have a vette but in reality they are some 12.4 cars stock.

I have my suspicions that the 2 guys who ran high 11's in "showroom stock" C6 Corvettes have a different definition of "showroom stock" than the rest of us.

Maybe they think showroom stock means having a stock engine and that traction stuff doesn't count as mods?

Seems like about the average time for a C6 to me... granted I run at 5800 foot with DAs always over 8000'. but the fastest I have seen on of those go up here is 13.9-14.0. So if you take the DA into account that brings it to roughly a 12.5 or so..

You have enough trap speed to squeeze out an 11 second pass.

If I could get the 60' time down, I agree. It would take magic to get there on stock Goodyear F1 runflats though, and I'm afraid that drag radials would do bad things to the half shafts.
