Long summer new best

After a long summer of chasing problems with our Maverick, it finally has a new best. First I'll start by telling you how this summer went. Tried new fuel this summer, VP Q16 race fuel. first time out the car ran like crap. over the winter we had put a 16v alt on the car and also a new Magnafuel Fuel pump. Changed the fuel pump and still ran horrible. disconnected the alt and no change. Decided to switch fuel to turbo blue and it was a little better. Not loading up off the line like it did with the Q16. Talked to VP and they said that Q16 needs a minimum of 14:1 compression top work properly. Our car is 12.5:1. Ran nothing but turbo blue next time out, ran strong till the 1/8 mi mark then would start breaking up. Once we got the car home we did a leak down. 30% loss on cylinder 7 exhaust valve. Decided to change springs to a stiffer set up.Found a couple springs that were borken along the bottom of the spring, couldn't tell they were broken by visual inspection. Leak down came back perfect. Regrounded everything on the car and hooked the alt back up. This past weekend, the last time out for the year. The car ran a 8:26 right out of the trailer. Seems our problem was fixed. ran consistant 8:26s and 8:27s all day. broke out on the second round of brackets and sent us home. Glad we got the car straightened out. The Maverick is power by a N/A 351 cleveland stroked to 400ci. Not bad for a N/A small block ford
