Need answers fast!!!
Ok, I am planning on going to the local track tom. I need some quick advice. My car is a v6 and I have a tiny leak at the seal behind the harmonic balancer. I have not had time to fix it. I am just curious if they will let me run? I know that it barely leaks at all, but when you look under you can see some spots of oil. This is my first time to the track and I don't want to not pass the inspection, I do not know how critical they get. Thanks.

it alllll depends on who is doing the inspecting!! and also which track.
They won't even pop your hood on the V6...just take your card and write down your number. so NO they won't look. but still... but since you have an oil leak...please dont run it down the track...if those high end dragsters hit that oil on the track...no bueno.

Well this event is only street legal cars. It is going to be a bunch or riced out civics and stuff. I know it is wrong. I dont know what to do. I want to go to the track and I don't know when else I will be able to go, but again I would feel horrible if someone lost control cuz of my car?

Well it all depends on if its really a big leak or not..if its a drip here or there i wouldn't think it would be the end of the world.
im just anal about things with my car so id just get it fixed before hand. but im sure you would be fine.

Does it actually leak or is it just wet? I would not take a car on a track that is actually dripping oil.

I dont know if it drips. I think it only leaks when I drive. I mean I can notice it underneath the car when I change the oil you can see where the oil is. But when I let it sit in the driveway it don't drip. So it makes me think that it only leaks when the engine is running.
And I am pretty picky, but I won't have time to put the new seal in. I am busy tonight and it is tom when the event is.

Go turn it on leave it running for abit and look under the car. I would say if you dont see any thing and there is never oil in your parking spots than go for it.

Ok I will try that. But something has to be leaking underneath the car then. Because there is definately wet oil and I know I have to add a quart every oil change. Unless I am using oil but it only has 90k on it and there is wet oil underneath the car.

I looked at it again just now. I have the seal and everything but of course with my f ing Under drive pulleys I can't get the puller I have on there. So I think I am going to scrap tom and just end up fixing the problem. I looked under and it must have been happening for awhile. Because I can see oil all along the bottom. I am going to put the new seal in, then buy some flourescent dye for my oil and check to make sure it ain't leaking after that.
This way I fix the problem and don't have to worry next time I get to go to the track.

A quart between oil changes?? Thats not bad. I guarantee someone else there will be leaking more oil than that.
btw...how do you know it's leaking and not burning oil?? Compression test??

I know it is leaking cuz the underside of my car has oil all over it. And I can see where it was leaking around the seal behind the balancer. I fixed the seal and put a new one in, so we will see. Here in a couple days when I weld in my subframe connectors I will see if it is still leaking.
