First time racing

Won't be the first time I've been down the track, but it will be in my mustang. I have a couple basic questions that ya'll have probably alrady answered hundreds of times.
1. I'm on stock street tires, is there any point in lowering the air pressure?
2. Go around the water box or no? I have heard conflicting things when using street tires.
3. Burnout, quick spin of the tires, or nothing?
4. It's a 5-speed around what rpm should I but launching at? All stock.

Subscribed. I'll be paying my first visit to the drag strip soon, too, hopefully.

you'll just piss people off if you hit the water box. just go around it. and i'd think lowering your air pressure on stock tires would actually put you at a disadvantage. as for rpms, idk, just play around with it until you're not spinning but you're not bogging

waterbox is the water before the lights where you can do a burnout but with stock tires often all you do is spread water closer to the lights.

So for those with DRs, you burnout in the waterbox for less wear on the tires as opposed to a burnout on the pavement?

Well cars will roll through it so the ones with slicks can get them spinning faster, you don't actually burnout in the water. The point is to warm the tires up through friction and there isn't much in the water.

Then what do us street tire people do? Quick burnout outside the waterbox, or just race?(I know that was part of your original post, so that was more directed to others)

Well you can drive around the water box (to the side) and do a quick spin of your tires, or jsut pull up to the lights.

Go around the water box, quick spin of the tires to clear any dirt or debris off, and make a clean pass.

By slip the clutch, are you talking about sliding my foot off to the right type of deal? Or is that bad on the clutch?

Agree with NastyStang, street tires usually are not allowed to burn out using the water box. Just a quick spin to clean them. I dont know anything about manual trans, but if you have an automatic, just brake torque it at the lights(in other words, hold your foot on the brakes while giving it some gas at the same time, and when the light turns green or just about, let go of the brake and hit the gas at the same time)

Search function is your friend, this has been covered many times. If you cant find it here, look in the Drag section
