A couple bits of advice... The sidwalls are very porous; shine a bright light on the backside of the sidewall & you'll see what I mean. It's a good idea to have a portable airpump; good one's can be had from WallMart or Sears for 40-60 bucks. An old trick to help reduce the amount of air that escapes through the sidewall is to mix up a 70\30 mix of dishwashing soap(like Dawn) & water. You slather the inside of the sidewalls with this thick soapy "film" before mounting the tires on the rims. Yes, it works IMHO...

much easier to just put tubes in them & some tracks will not let you run a "tube-type" tire without a tube in them anyway.

Huh.... News to me, I run at a bunch of tracks out here on the West Coast, and I've never heard of this.... I've never run tubes.... Maybe for 9 second or faster cars?

nope, east coast is completely diffrent (at some tracks anyway) no tubes in tube type tires (there is a reason tires are marked type type, one you mentioned above with the sidewall & the other is the bead, on a tubless tire, the bead is far stronger) you cant pass tech in any class regardless of speed.
there also is quite a movement to eliminate bias-ply DOT tires (ie. E.T. Streets, QTP's ) from DOT tire classes.
does this apply to all tracks? no, but why show up at a new track & not be allowed to race because your too cheap/stupid not to run tubes in your clearly marked tube type tires.

Well I got some ordered from Discount Tire.. about $450 mounted and out the door. Seemed to be the best deal, everyone wants an arm and a leg to mount tires if you bring your own in.

Damn I didnt even think out the shop on post. Do they let civilians rent a stall? I cant belive what places charge these days for a mount/balance. I used to do that stuff in like 10mins.

You guys are on the money with tires . I need some help also, I ran my 2010 gt auto only twice. I need to lower my et . 13.5 purestock. I just installed 373 gears and a c&l no tune cold air kit. I do have a ford racing programmer set at 91 oct. The car has traction problems with the 331 s. I just was wondering if I added a drag radial how much lower do you think my et. will go

Damn... read the thread date man. Dug this one up from the grave. But to answer your question sticky tires can be worth 1/2 a sec to a full second off your et
