Drag Radials

Im running 550 bhp with 467 at the wheels and was unable to get a good launch last weekend . I think its time to invest in new rubber ! have 14" cross drilled brakes therfore looking to go for 18" what would you suggest ?

smaller brakes bro. noting in an 18" tire, drag radial or otherwise will hook up that kinda power.

Agree with above post. The best you could do with an 18" "steam roller" is have a controlled spin off the line. You'd see an et improvement; but nothing comparable to a true slick with some sidewall & really coming out of the hole with all that torque IMHO.....

+1 Was hard for me to cut much more than a 1.9 60ft with 275/40/17 drs, my best was a 1.8 with the 17s...and thats with 420rwhp. This friday I will be trying out some ET Streets on 16in rims.

doesn't matter, they wouldn't have enough sidewall to work with that kinda power. best bet is stock GT brakes & 15" wheels or quit worring about launching well.

1.79 isnt bad for a relativly stock motor with some tires/susp mods, but not even close to what I'd be looking for with 467rwhp.

while your right that torque is responsible for your 60'. a car with 467 RWHP is gonna have a shit load of torque as well. with the power that the o/p has (just guessing at the torque) I'd be thinking in the 1.5 range 60'.

I'm a fan of M&H Racemaster DR's. I've got them on my 17's and I've started cutting some 1.62 60's now that I'm getting the suspension dialed in and they are pretty worn.

They've got 3 different 18" drag radials available; 275/45/18, 325/40/18 & 345/35/18.

While YOU are right about the hp to tq ratio there is a lot more then just that in your 60ft time. Yes drag radials matter..... A LOT....... but what kind of suspension mods do you have. Make all the power in the world but if you cant put it to the ground then your SOL.

your missing the point, drag radials help, but they have their limits. a car with 400+ rwhp isn't gonna like 18" d/r's.
the o/p needs to decide if he's serious about racing at all & if so loose the big brakes & run a 15" bias ply DOT tire or a full slick.

you're going to have an incredibly hard time cutting 1.5 60fts with that power...you would need a 2step and or trans break. or a hell of a lot of seat time in a manual trans car.
even then i dont see a car with that little bit of power in a car weighing 3500+

on an 18in wheel it wont happen..

as far as tire choice Mickey Thompson or hoosiers are a great drag tire

you don't see 1.5 60' from 467 rwhp? if I wasn't seeing 1.5 with that power I'd push the car off a cliff.
I get 1.72's all day with a 100% stock long block (quite a bit of susp work/etc though, but never had the valve covers off & I'm N/A)

I've seen what it takes to cut 1.5 60s
in an s197 it takes more power then that, also power in the right spot. And on 18s its not happening.

Congrats to your 1.7 60s but its not quite 1.5.
My buddy had a GT500 making a massive amount of power and he had the record for the best 60ft at 1.47 or 1.49 on a drag radial(GT500)...and BOGARTS not an 18in street wheel.
btw the GT500 made well over 800whp through a twin screw and nitrous. w/a 6speed

not saying its going to take 800+whp. but with 467 through probably a centri blower...no its not happening
