the reason for the 13.44 - that video is my very first run on that setup. the motor build, clutch, new shifter, 28" tall slicks and 4.10s. I had not been able to get to the track and dial this new set up in because of troubles with the build and money issues. Last year - normally - on just the "basically" stock motor (cai and canned diablo tune) 26" tall Drag Radials, and stock 3.27s, i would launch at 4000-4100 rpms and run a 13.7xx all day long.

This run in the video i launched at 4200rpms just to get a feel for it. If you watch that launch in the video, it bogged horribly off the line. Yet it ran faster than it ever did last year. Was i surprised that it wasnt quicker than a 13.44, not really becuase of the launch. Was i surprised that it was faster than last year, not really i was kinda aiming for that lol. My final run that day i had raised the 2step to 5500rpms for the launch and ultimately snapping an axle (stock axle) and never gettin to see what the potential was for this car.

I do realize jumping up 1300 rpms was stupid but i was impatient and ready to see what she could do. in doing so that ended up being the last run of this year. I have my car back together with better axles and diff. but am too worried about breaking somthing else. so its gonna have to wait till next spring to see the full potential. chassis and axle bracing will be in the works during winter time.
sounds like a good plan.
don't think I was knocking your times in any way, nothing wrong with a 13.44, I was just using it to make my point.
get the winter mods out of the way & hopefully we'll see you at some events next year.

I thought the Hi-techs were a better cam than that.. I remember seeing people getting close to 290rwhp with a few other bolt-ons.. I know thta doesnt have mush to do with track time but more power does help.. And what about trevor's car? He ran a 12.1 and i doubt that was just from bolt-ons and a good tire.. Im not trying to argue just understand..

You're right. I just went and looked at Trevor's mods. He's hooking pretty hard (1.6 60'). That will make up 7-8 tenths off of the OPs time right there. He's also got 4.10s out back, so that will make a good sized difference as well.

To the OP:

I don't know what the weather was like that day - maybe the air was bad, so that could slow you down 3 tenths right there (over a good air day). That said, I was trapping 104 mph with just the stock heads (no porting) and a small cam (Comp 262AH). Your trap speed should be at least 3 mph faster than that in good air. Maybe you should get it dyno-tuned as that may help. Also, I'm going to guess that your car should rev out nicely to over 6000 rpm (once you get the tuning figured out), so the 4.10s won't be too much gear for you as your car stands right now. After you put a blower on it, you may not be comfortable with those gears however. I personally like the 4.10s with a Vortech combo that I'm using now.

Best of luck.

looks like you picked up some decent power considering you gained quite the mph over your "before" pass

+1 the mph is good enough to trap well in to the 12's...the cams/heads are not the problem, nittos are not the best choice out there, do yourself the favor and get some 15" rims with some hoosiers or MT et streets. This added with a hard launch will cut your ET way down...

I'm working on it. Tight on cash at the moment. I appreciate the input from you all.

I've installed my 3.73s and found a fatal flaw with my tunning. I re-tuned it and picked up 5 degrees of spark on my 93 tune.

It definitely feels faster with the new tune. (Did the tune before the gears)

I'll let you know how I do on my street tires when I go again. I don't have enough for some real tires yet. I'll be very happy if I can get low 13s on street tires.

The air was terrible. IAT's were at 103* and humidity was very high, I'd guess around 80%. I think you're right about revving higher once it's dyno tuned. Like I said though, cash is short. Thanks for the help.

Thats what I was thinking since I picked up like 4 mph on a bad tune from the start.

I'm working on the tires, cash flow is an issue at the moment. Just got back from school full time.

=(
