confused

Hey guys,

Took my 04 to the track. I ran 9's in the 1/8 and 6.25 at the 330ft. I think my 60ft was like 2.0 to 2.5 sec.

I am spinning through all of 1st and most of 2nd. This is a saleen look a like with 18's S wheels. Only mods are cold air, 75mm throttle body, and true dual exhaust. No H pipe. I was reading in the forum about what to use but all the info gets kinds jumbled in my head. I guess what i need to know is if going with 15x8 with 4.5 B.S. on 26x11.5x15 is going to help my times. I can't be pushing more than 300 hp I wouldnt think.
Sorry for asking the same ?'s Thanks for any help you can give

A little more information would be useful in helping you out.

9's is a pretty big range. Judging by your 330', I'm going to say you were mid-9s (9.6 or so?). Low 9s with your mods and street tires isn't too bad.

What tires are you currently running? If you're spinning through first and second with your power level, I suppose you're probably running all-season tires?

Is this a manual or automatic transmission?

Not running an h or x-pipe is probably hurting your times as well. The crossover helps these motors a lot with exhaust scavenging.

And no, I can guarantee you're not over 300 hp. You're most likely in the 235-240 RWHP range.

As for wheels and tires, sticky tires will definitely help you out a lot (it cut about 3 tenths off of my 1/8 mile time). You'll need 5.5 backspacing on 8" wheels. 11.5" is waaay too wide for a sticky tire at your power level. Stick with an 8" or 9" for now.

i can say one thing for sure the 35 series tire is one reason your spinning through first and second gear get another set of rims and tires for the rear on track days get like a 16 inch rim with a 265/55 r16 tire maybe slightly wider but imo your gonna need to let those tires flex a little and with the low pro tire there isnt any flex in the sidewall

Yeah, those Sumi's aren't very sticky to begin with and on an 18" wheel that's going to make them even worse. You could pick up some 16" V6 wheels for pretty cheap or buy some dedicated 15" drag wheels for a bit more money.

With a manual trans, it's going to be tough to be consistent even with drag radials so most guys will tell you to go with a bias ply slick. Hoosier QTPs are a very good street legal slick or you could go with full out drag slick (Hoosier and MT both make good slicks). A bias ply tire will also be easier on your rear end.

Def get a set of tires. At steeper gear would help too. Saying you had a 2.0-2.5 60' makes a world of difference diagnosing what to do. It doesn't seem like a lot, but every .1 in your 60' can take off up to .2 in the full quarter.

Just bought me some 16x7 v6 mustang rims for $80.00 ea. now on to finding some slicks I think i will go with a 255-50-16 straight slick. what do you guys think? I seen a lot of guys on here going with this size but all these cars have all different types of power, gears, and suspension setups. It gets confusing on what will work best for my car. Thanks for all the help guys

Tires kept my 04 from the 12's. I could run a 13.4X with a trap of 106-107 and a 2.0-2.3 60ft so I know if I had tires I could get it into the 12's. Some folks trap at 104 and are in the 12's just because thet can hook up. Sucks roasting the tires down the track.

I went with brand new ones just to be safe. I still probably paid to much. I should really start checking around a little more before buying.
