Anyone with 4.6 and Drag Radials

Hey since the only people i race with that have DR's own 5.0's I was wondering what a good RPM is to launch at.

I am thinking 4k. but still not sure. Im going to the track today so i can play around with it, but i dont like wasting time at the line. Know what i mean.

Thanks

Casper

Well, it sure is hard getting used to them huh. First run i didnt exactly heat them up enough.... 4k sdiestep.....spin....

I finally got up to 3200 sdie stepped it and off i went... But im cutting the same 60' s as i was with street tires????

Im only cutting a 2.01 was my best. Its pissing me off. Im also not getting anywhere faster than i was with my street tires. I was cutting a best of a 2.0 60' and a 1/4 mile time of a 14.0@99mph. My best time with these M/T's

R/T : .515
60' : 2.012
330: 5.865
1/8 : 9.051@79.52mph
1000: 11.807
1/4: 14.123@98.61mph

Any clues ??? Maybe if i launch higher ?? I just want a better time with my DR's then i can cut with my street tires.

thanks

Casper

With Nitto's I launched at 2800rpm, kept 18# of pressure in the tires. Slight spin at launch, had to granny shift 2nd and but from there it was all good.

What was your tire pressure at? With MT's I'd expect around the same tire pressure but you should be able to launch at 3500+ with those. You should be able to cut at least a 1.8x 60' and cut .3 - .4 off your 1/4

Hey Joe. I have the Mickey Thompsons on 15 inch weld wheels. I keep them at 15psi ( give of take a 1/2 each ) then i heat them up and go. Im only launching at 3000ish.... im wondering if i should shoot for more. Im thinking that due to the less ( Much less ) horsepower im making i should HAVE to go higher due to the new found traction. Understand what im saying???

I would need to launch higher than 3000 because when i come off the line its not balls to the wall, almost like it wants to bog. So if i go higher it will be higher in the RPM range when the car wants to bog and i will be more in my peak range.

Ahh if your running them big sidewall MT's then yea 14-15ish is about right. You could do a dry burn and check the contact patch of the rubber... still though you shouldn't be able to spin those MT's off the line at anything less than 4k I would think.

My car will bog on slicks anything less than 5k rpm launch... I lauch off the rev limiter
