test and tune

Hey guys, I'm going to take my mustang down to the local 1/8th mile strip this friday for test and tune, its a stock motor I just want to get a base time to see how much what I'm planning on doing to the car will help. I've raced since I was 15, but they have always been autos and the mustang is a 5speed, so does anybody have any tips for someone who has never raced a 5speed before?

Just gotta get some seat time and figure out what works best for you, test and tune is the perfect time to do it. I usually stage with the park brake and drop the clutch around 3500 rpms with street tires, think everyones going to have a different oppinion just have to try it out and see what works for you.

4valvegt is correct. You just need to get in some seat time. When I was on street tires, I would launch at about 2800 and dump the clutch on the third yellow. After that, it's just a matter of practicing your shifts and getting consistent.

IF you have street tires, "dumping the clutch" at any rpm above 2000rpm will just blow the tires off. You need to "slip" the clutch a little to get a decent 60'. I would start at leaving at 2000rpm, not dumping the clutch but slightly slipping it. If it hooks then go up teh ladder until it doesnt hook anymore. Then like stated its all in how you can drive.

+1

IF you are street tires, make sure you go around the water box and just spin the tires to get the dirt off them. no need for a burn out with street tires. don't be afraid to power shift that hoe either.

Ya not really what i meant should have said feather or slip the clutch, never had a problem with wheel spin in my old gt with street tires taking off around 3k on a prepped track, test and tune might be a little different though the track i go to doest prep for friday nights.
