08 civic SI vs 97 Mustang v6?

I'm curious how exactly a true drag race like this would turn out. Reason for my asking is because my good friend owns the civic and I have the mustang. It brings some fun arguments between his lil toy car and my Found On Road Dead car but we've never really raced (for many reasons).

It's also manual vs. manual, his car is stock and mine has a CAI and dual exhaust with 2.5" tubing. Driver wise I'd put us both at the same (realistically that's not the case but for argument sake) however he has no idea how to keep his civic in its V-tech range which IMHO makes a HUGE impact on this scenario.

I doubt it's THAT easy to know... I drove his car and it wasn't anything special. I figured I'd at least have him off the line.

He'll win. 97 gt's are like 150 hp (correct me if I'm wrong) and your mods didn't add much whp. He's @ 197 stock and keeping a Honda in vtec just means keeping the engine @ high rpm...its not that hard..

If you went with some gears I'd say you but as it sits he'll win unless he really sucks at driving.

It is that easy. The newer Si's can take the split port V6's (99-04) that are rated at 190-193hp at the crank and has 3.27 gears. Your car isn't split port, rated at 150hp at the crank, and I believe you have 2.73 gears. If they can beat the faster V6s, they can definitely beat the slower V6s.

With gears the Mustang could probably get the Civic off the line, but in the end I think the Civic will still win. 94-98 V6s are ridiculously slow.

Exactly.

A CAI and exhaust aren't going to really do anything to help either.

Yeah, our cars don't respond well to those mods. We get maybe 2 or 3 hp from those (with basically all of that coming from the CAI).

Yea dude honestly thts why I hate hondas cuz there drivers get a boner when they say or hear vtec.....vtec in most hondas is above 4500 rpms and wat hapens is on the cam it locks the lobes so tht its now a diff cam profile making the lift and duration higher and longer......with out vtec hondas r just regular....import v6/I4....and if tht were the case they'd be slow and u be able to beat em....

Thts just my two cents on how I feel about honda and there vtec

I'll chime in. I had a 08 Si sedan. I have no idea what the numbers would be but it ran neck and neck with my buddy's 08 Titan. So low 15's high 14's.

Civic all day. Maybe you get off the line first but he's reeling you in quick and no way you're keeping up in top end.

2. 7K isn't really shit on a Honda motor. Back in my ricing days I had a B18C5 that I'd run to 8.5k and it was begging for more. It all depends on how the motor is built. And a manufacturer is going to set the red line conservatively so that dumb ass kids aren't coming in all the time with blown motors from winding them out, that would cost too much in warranty coverage.
