Woohoo! Going Racing!

Finally going to the track tonight. This winter has been the longest winter ever.

Tonight is test and tune night. I need to get my launch RPM and tire pressure dialed back in after putting my gears in over the winter. Hoping for 8.30 or below and 1.85 or less 60'.

Love the way the car looks with the drag wheels on and strapped down on the trailer.

Best run of the night was my first. 8.36 @ 82.14 mph with a 1.75 60' spinning. Time to drop some coin on rear suspension parts. Full details coming later.

Full Details. All runs were made launching at 4800 RPMs. With the exception of the 2nd run. I didn't have my two-step set, so I was having to get the correct RPM manually and I think I let the RPMs drop on that run. Because I was having to manually find my RPM, I was completely ignoring the tree and thus I've omitted 60' time from the results below. On run 5, I missed 2nd gear (seriously...who misses 2nd gear?).

I was expecting the tire pressure to make a bigger difference than it did. Part of the reason for that is because they only prep the track once on test and tune nights, and the track started getting slicker as more and more cars running street tires tore up the prep. One of my buddies was there with his car running 6.30s, and he was having big trouble hooking later in the evening where he had no problems when we first got there.

I think the sweet spot is going to be right around 15 psi. The car hooked fairly well for a car with stock control arms and cut a 1.76 60' at that pressure (this was the 58th overall pass in that lane, so the track was already pretty torn up by that point.

Code:
Run # 1	2	3	4	5
Time 6:10	6:34	7:10	7:33	7:53
Tire PSI	18	17	17	15	12
60' 1.757	1.817	1.782	1.762	1.771
1/8 ET 8.361	8.491	8.416	8.426	X.XXX
1/8 MPH 82.14	81.71	81.66	81.47	XX.XX
I have a video of the 5th pass (naturally, the only one I got on video was the one that I missed a shift). I'll upload it momentarily.

I missed 2nd gear on this run, but I was most interested in the 60' times anyway so it didn't make a big difference. In any case, it gives an idea of how the car is leaving. Had a 1.77 60' on this pass.

car seems to run good.

you'll defenately need some susp. work though if you still have bracket racing plans.

Oh yeah. I'm going to be bracket racing still. Rear suspension is next on deck to be purchased.

Thanks. I didn't quite make my ET goal, but I was very pleased with my 60' times.

Does anyone have any idea what sort of drop in 60' I should expect with LCAs and UCAs?

your car (mine either so don't feel bad ) doesn't have the juice to do a whole lot better in the 60' than your doing now, the main thing control arms will do is to stabilize your launch & make it more predictably.

based off your current numbers, with quality control arms, I'd expect stable 1.70's.

Sounds like you're doing it the right way. Build the suspension before putting big horsepower to it. So many get it wrong. I also like your attention to detail. What size Hoosiers are you running, slick, or QTP? Oh, and what track? Are you near Nashville?

Yeah, I knew it didn't have much left in it. I still have some wheel spin coming off the line, but I may not be able to eliminate that completely without more tire.

Thanks. I'm trying to do the intelligent thing (uncharacteristic for me; lol) and listen to the guys who have been down this road before.

I'm running a 26x9x15 Hoosier slick. I live in Henderson (which is about 2.5 hours southwest of Nashville). My home track is Jackson Dragway just outside of Jackson, TN.

Well you're heading in the right direction for sure. I was thinking of Hendersonville that is close to Nashville. I run a Beech Bend in Bowling Green Ky. when I run the 1/4 and thought you might be close. Keep up the good work and if I can ever help let me know.

I think the whole spinning thing will resolve itself with control arms & seattime to figure out the launch/tire pressure.

your making the right moves, you'll have it sorted out in no time.

Thanks. Will do.

I was actually born in Elizabethtown and lots of my family still lives around Bowling Green. I'll be up there for the NMRA Finals in October. Give me a shout if you're going to be there and we'll meet up.

I'll be there this year again but with the car this time hoping to sew up a top ten spot in MM points.
