it does work imo. especially on a car with a roots blower like a 03/04 cobra.

although dripping water down the track is never good

it may have some potential to work, but seriously, think about it.

by the time you leave the pits idle up thru the staging lanes, do your burn out, stage & go, do you really think the blower is still cold from the ice?

even if you push the car thru the lanes with the ice on it, when your close to being up, you need to remove the ice & close the hood.

then you'll need to start the car & drive up to do your burn out, stage & wait for the lights to start down, again, do you really think the blower is still cold from the ice?

it's just a new/inexperianced, guy/gal myth, just like pulling around the water & backing into it being some sort of holy grail when it comes to burnouts.

I pull around the water box to keep my front tires from draging extra water foward.

the only time I've ever done it is at tracks with a barrier behind the water box & you have no choice but to back into the water.

heres the way I look at it, the amount of water you could possibly track anywhere with your front tires is negligible if the track crew takes care of the water box properly.

to each his own I guess.

lol, Casper. You pretty much said everything I was thinking (about ice and backing into a water box). At Quaker, a track you are familiar with, I see these guys backing into the water but the water box guy doesn't leave enough room for you to get around without getting your front tires wet too. The only time I had an issue with water was a Thompson, a back in water box. I mis-judged how far back I was and slammed into the dip that holds water. I usually stop just in front of the box so my treads don't hold water. Well, when I slammed into the dip, water splashed up into my wheel wells. I did my burnout, got to the line and when I launched, it was like I was in ice because of the water dripping onto my tires.

LOL, these guys think theve see burn out boxes, they haven't lived till they do one at QCR.

Thompson was one of the ones I was talking about with the barrier, the other one that comes to mind is Friendship Park/Steel Valley if it's still around.

bottom line while were on the topic of Ohio though is that I miss Meander/Youngstown Drag City, brings back any memories for you?
I remember early on ('89 mabie but late 80's early 90's) they had to pull the christmas tree one night to land a plane.

The Thrill of the Hill. lol. Great Lakes in Wisc has a hill too but it is nothing like Quaker. I've never been to Meander but I hear stories about it all the time.
42 and Magnolia both have back in boxes as well. I watched a car back up too far at 42 and get stuck in the mud behind the box. Had to be pulled out with a tractor. lol.

The ice bag does work to be honest. I bought 4 bags, One on my blower intake, then 3 along the piping coming out of the fenderwell up to the plenum. I let it sit for an hour after coming off the highway, and ran a 12.8 @ 113mph and missed 3rd. Then I did it again but not as long as a cool down and ran a 12.9 @ 111mph. Then the one time I hot lapped it I went from a 12.6 @ 113 to a 12.8 @ 108mph. So it definatley does work some.

no offence bro, but it may seem to work due to your inexperiance & with your car being all over the place, but trust the veterans on this one, all it does is make you out the money for the ice & makes you look like a newby.

not quite the same but kinda interesting. We had a 1000hp 94mm 363ci Mustang on the dyno at the shop I used to work at. He have an air to water intercooler in the trunk. Put 2 bags of ice in the intercooler. After 2 pulls it was luke warm! Its crazy how much it works in that sence. The ice on the pipes IMO it's worth the hassle on the pipes. The pipe is cool but like Casper said once you go thru all that other stuff that pipe wont be cold enough anymore to do anything.

I respect your veteren opinions man. But comparing a boosted car going down the track vs a NA car going down the track are 2 totally different things.

My intercooler pipes are hot to touch after a pass. My IATs at the end of a pass hit like 138*. Got it back to the pits, the IATs were down some. Popped the hood through the Ice on the supercharger intake, and the intercooler piping to the plenum. An hour later my IAT was down to 76*. By the time I was ready to do my burnout, they were at 90*. But I cant imagine what they would have been without the ice.

People can laugh all they want, fact is it works. Even if it didnt, I still wouldnt care if some tool was laughing at me because I was trying to make my car run alittle faster down the track.

If you think it works, that's all that matters. At least you aren't heating a nitrous bottle with a torch in the staging lanes!

Not really, I'll be 39 next week but I've only been racing since 2007. It's amazing what you'll see on a TnT night or at the little tracks like Magnolia.

that explains why you don't remember Meander then, they closed in the 90's, but the stuff you'd see there would really be interesting (non santioned outlaw track).

t-shirt & shorts was typical in a dragster, no hoods, no lights, 4 people in the car, you name it.

we all had fun though.

give any more thought to columbus?

Given it some thought. Going to look through the classes and see what class I'd run. Haven't made up my mind yet but I'll let you know.
