Went to the track

Hey guys, went to the track last night for the first time in years! Weather was around 90* and about 69% humidity.

Only had a chance to do 1 pass(late) and it sucked, I was literary sick to my stomach lol. Left around 2300 bogged a bit and the spun. Ran a 14.03@103.89 w/ a 2.335 60'foot on 275/17 555 nittos(not in good shape)

I was really disappointed/sad, need help big time guys, I know the car can do a lot better than this!

Mods are in garage, dyno numbers where 328/378.

PS. will post time slip later.

The hot air wasnt helping. Nor was it that it was your first time in a while. Just get some more practice in man. I would suggest getting some drag radials. At least NT555Rs. And try with those.

Don't sweat it!

You had ONE pass.
It takes practice (more than ONE pass).

since you make no mention of a built rear end (ie. you can't safely run drag radials) or any rear susp. work (other than the springs that are hurting, not helping), you've got your hands full.

the first thing you need to do is to have a nice talk with yourself & decide how important it is to you to run the number your h/p is capable of.

once you make a decision, come back & update this thread with your decision & how much you have to spend & then we can help you.

I did have in mind doing the rearend this winter. For right now I'm really in a tight budget(maybe $500 tops) I know the sportlines are not helping at all lol...so maybe some drag springs and tires meanwhile??

tires will be a big help, but with your budget, I would recomend going easy on the car at the track & continuing to save for the rear parts, susp, & wheels/tires all at once.

putting drag radiale on now is just asking for a blown up rear diff, so if you must do something, find a used set of wheels with full slicks on them for the track.

Suprised the trap is so low BUT 1st pass in years with a stock suspension car on street tires you can't really ask for much.

A lot of things affect his trap.

But I mean 1 pass, thats it. Thats why he ran 14 seconds. Just go back up and get some more practice

Thanks for the good advice casper!! Im looking on craigslist, maybe I can get a set of slicks for now!

Hopefully I will work on the rear suspension this winter

I thought so too, it was really hot that night though, maybe it has something to do.

Yeah, man. Went back friday night to midnight madness(10pm-2am) and it sure lived up to its name!

Got there @9:30, it took 1hour to get through the gates!!, get in and guess what...another f'n hour to get through tech!!

let the car cool off for a good 30 min and by the time I got to run it was around 12am!

After the pass let the car sit for 15 min or so, when i was going to the staging lanes the line was insane! 25-30 cars atleast, so I said F it and went home lol.

/rant lol

Here is the time slip...left around 3500 rpms and slipped the clutch...some improvement.

Edit: Shifting at 5800 rpms and this is my dyno sheet(if it helps any)

Dude your tune or something is jacked. These cars shouldn't drop that much power on the big end. Peak power shouldn't be till around 55-5800. And my 04 only made 347rwhp and trapped 111.88 with bolt-ons and a 100 shot.

Wait a freakin minute! You don't have a throttle body on that thing? You seriously need to invest in an c&l upper plenum and some type of 75mm tb and bad. Your basicly choking the engine in higher rpm's.

No TB yet, I think the problem is more with my small ass turbo. Already looking into a precision though

Yeah you definatley need a turbo. If I were you, I would get the one that the new kits come with. Its just a On3 70mm turbo. I think you can get them off their eBay store for like $300. JoshDrex made like 430rwhp at 9psi through a stalled auto with one.

I don't see what is jacked... 60ft has a lot of effect with the same mods each pass my car trapped 98 with a 2.1 60ft and 103 with a 1.9.
Op, get that 60 down and you should be trapping closer to 108 or 109 as well as possible high 12s and low 13s.
You ran exactly what I ran on drag radials but your 60 is 3/10 higher than mine.

60ft can effect mph but only if your losing a ton of time during it. I cut a 1.85 on street tires in my 04 and trapped 112.67 then cut a 1.66 on slicks and only trapped 111.88. He's trapping what bolt-on only cars trap. The turbo you have is plenty big enough to support 450. If you don't believe just try it. Find a used 70-75mm tb and any aftermarket upper plenum (shouldn't cost more than $150-200 for both) put it on there, run it, and if it doesn't gain just take them back off and sell them for what you have in them. But if I'm right you'll have saved $100+ on not buying a new turbo.

Have you checked for a boost leak? I'm asking because your peak hp is really low for a turbo car. Your peak hp is aroun 48-5000. An n/a 2v makes peak hp around 56-5800. Yours should atleast be 55-5600.

Its a 60mm turbo. Its really small for his car. Its spooling really fast, but its not maintaining the power. Just go on eBay and buy a On3 70mm turbo and put it at 9psi and I guarantee youll be a lot happier.

Blackbird, I do agree with you, but the On3 2V car is stock besides the turbo and flowmaster mufflers. Plenum to oil pan is stock. And they made decent power for low boost. I do agree though, the stock throttle body and plenum is definatley choking it off a decent amount though.

I just think there is more in that turbo and that something isn't quite right with his car. Srt-4's that run that turbo make north of 425-450 all the time. That's just 4 cyl's. And they make peak power around 5800-6200 rpm. Those guys are only pushing 18psi(which is minimal on those). His car should have no problem making over 400rwhp at 5800 at 10psi with that turbo. It's just my opinion.

10-18 psi is a big difference regardless of the motor. Srt-4 has different downpiping and exhaust size. There are a lot of factors to include when comparing two cars like that.
