Cheap slick setup...will this work?
Hey guys... I only make it to the track maybe 3 time a season and I've been running on my 18"s getting zero traction on the launch. But I just sold my stock wheels & tires and I want to use the cash ($400) to by a cheap wheel and slick. I'm lowered and plan on staying that way so I need a small tire.
Will this setup work for what I need? M&H Cheater Slick 26.0'' x 10.5'' - 15'' = $155 each M&H MHD-01 M&H Cheater Slick Drag Tires Cragar 15x7 , 4.5BS wheel = $39 each (not pretty but who cares and it's the same measuresments as the OEM V6 wheels that I cant find) Cragar 3105712P Cragar Nomad I Wheel

I wouldn't go with anything but a Hoosier or Mickey Thompson tire. If you can, spend a little more money and pick up a set of Hoosier QTPs (if you need it to be DOT approved) or a set of Hoosier Drag Slicks.
Hoosier 17421QTP Hoosier Quick Time Pro D.O.T. Drag Tires Hoosier 18111D05 Hoosier Drag Slicks The minimum recommended wheel width for the tires you linked and the QTPs above is 8". The drag slicks are a little skinnier and have a minimum recommended wheel width of 7".

M&H's are good tires, don't be afraid of them. I've run M&H's and Mickeys. I run identical times on both brands. The M&H's have a tendency to be narrow compared to the Mickeys so the 7" rim might be ok.

Do they have anything like an 8" wide rim? I asked about some other Crager steel wheels and the 4.5BS on a 15x8 supposedly fit but stick out wide.
I ended up finding some good 15x8"s cheap on Craigslist local ($50 for the pair) and got some M/T ET Streets.

for that price they only have the 15x7s... but yeah a 15x8 w/ 4.5BS will stick out some. I'll be fine the with the 15x7, I just need to find a slick to work on the rim... I leaning to just getting the setup I listed above. anything better than the heavy ass 18" roush wheels I'm using now.

I wouldn't use a 10.5 wide slick on that narrow of a rim. Just get a 28X8.5X15 slick. That's the same size slick i ran 12.19 on in my 04.

M&H makes a very good tire. They've been around a long time - at least since the 60's.
Cheater slicks are great - it's a DOT tire but not meant for the street at all. I'd get at least a 15x8 rim though. You can run the MT 26x11.50-17 (p/n 3743) Cheater slick on a factory bullitt 17x8 rim. I used to do that and they work great. Tire is about 26.5" tall mounted on that rim. They hook great, too - I could get 1.66 60's out of them. I think MT says 10" rim but they work great on the 17x8. I think Brenspeed or one of the big shops actually sells the setup ready to go.

Look for some used aluminum rims. Those steel rims are heavy?
