Just got back from the track!

Made alot of progress tonight. First pass the car went 10.34 at 128mph which was 2 tenths slower than what it did the last time out. I took out the 2 degrees of timing that I added prior to that run and the car slowed down even more with a 10.41 at 124mph. I went back to the pits and pulled the carb apart. I jetted up 5 jet sizes and found a piece of paper stuck in one of the jet extensions completely blocking the jet. Put the carb back together and went 9.78 at 136mph. I made a couple more jet changes and some shock adjustments and the last pass of the night was a 9.45 at 141mph. I've fought with this car for a few months now and finally have it figured out. I am very pleased with it now. I'm going to make a gear change because it is going thru the lights around 8000 rpm and the engine peaks at 7100. I'm also going to play with some more jetting and timing and maybe get a .20 or 30 out of it. I might even strap a bottle on this bad boy later in the year and try to make some 8 second passes. The time and money has finally paid off.

The cool thing about it is I can still drive the car anywhere. Me and the wife were out cruising it last weekend. The car is totally streetable and reliable. Here are a few videos from last night. The white Lightning in a couple of those videos is the fastest street driven Lightning in the country. And I mean street driven down the highway, hundreds of miles at a time not just to the store and back. That truck runs 9.70s at well over 140 mph and weighs well over 4000 pounds.

The red light didn't suck at all. I did that on purpose. We were street racing. We run a program once a month at the track that is called Real Street Drags. The clocks are shut off so nobody can see what you run just like if you were doing it on the street. Street race rules apply. I left on him and he chased so it was a race. If he would have sat there it would have been draw. Our vehicles run so close that the race would be won on the tree so I knew I needed an advantage. I saw the opportunity and took it.

We ran off the tree that time but I stole the hit on him. In other words I cheated by leaving early but he chased me so it was a fair street race. You can run off the tree, off a flag or off a flash light. You set a race up with someone and you guys agree on the terms and the dollar amount if any and then let the guy in charge know how the race is set up. Its a whole lot of fun and sure beats racing on the street. Regular bracket racing is boring.

I squared up the rear end, changed from 130/250 pound progressive rate springs to 85lb specific rate springs, set the pinion angle at -3 degrees, made some shock adjustments and made some adjustments to the anti roll bar. Trial and error is really all it is. Somethings work, other things work better and some other things don't work at all.
