First Good 1/4mile Timeslip

Made the trek to a good track yesterday. I was hoping for a 13.5#...
03 GT, auto, unbolted mufflers and 75shot. Everything else is all factory original down to the tires.

First run: Left at 1500rpm, 2.1 60ft, engaged nitrous at 3k rpm. Let off the nitrous at 5k rpm, then back into after the tranny shifts at 6k rpm.
13.63@104. Just what I expected...

Nows heres the good run:
Left at 1700rpm, 2.1, engaged nitrous at 2700rpm, chirped the tires when I did, Stayed on the nitrous the whole way down.
13.39@104.6

I never thought it would run faster than 13.5. I know I can get 2 more tenths if it would dead hook off the line, then I could also engage the nitrous sooner giving me at least another tenth. So roughly a 13.0

Just how fast do you think I can make this car go with getting into the motor? I could still do DR's, gears, converter, tuning, change the plugs and go to a 100shot.

Basicaly, Im not famaliar to the 4.6L, and am surprised at whats mine has done so far.

What's your rwhp at? If you got that 60' under control you'd see 11's no problem. I'm making 308rwhp and I'm running 12.6-12.8 with 4.30 gears exhaust bolt-ons and a tune...

You should be able to eclipse that with a driver mod and some stickies...

Damn, your car seems freakish. You could be in 12's no problems with bolt ons and gears if you get your 60 foots down.

It's a good rule of thumb that every .10 you save in the 60' will equate to .2 in the quarter. You ran a 2.1 60' so with a 1.9-1.7 you could see some solid 12's. Plus a 104mph trap speed would be enough to get 12's once you get traction.

You will definitely see 12s with some better tires. Good luck and keep practicing. Seat time will probably net you a couple of tenths without changing anything else.

I only got those two passes in, then it started raining, so I can go back again for free next week. Im currently building an 86 Cutlass, so Im probably not gonna go much further with the Mustang, but now I know it would definetly be worth it if I did. I'll see if a good burnout helps any. From past experiences with other cars burnouts with street tires have never made much of a difference, but its worth a try. Id like to be able to hit the nitrous at 2500rpm, cuz thats where it kinda bogs off the line. But if I do it might break the tires loose and send me for a ride like one other time.
Is removing the air filter worth anything? Its a clean track so nothings gonna get sucked up, nor have enough force to break through the MAS screen

I don't think that will benefit you at all. Another easy mod is the passenger headlight removal. Just 2 metal tabs and unhook the electrical clips and POW, instant cold air directly to the filter.

Also if I were you I'd put my mufflers back on. I have a mustang with now muffler and it def got rid of some low end torque, and maybe you
have noticed to. Being the lack of back pressure.

My engine is much much more responsive with the mufflers unbolted. Mabey it does take away a few ft-lbs in the low end, but it gains a few HP on the top end where the engine is reving when your racing, so the car does get faster.

I feel the same way, but it could help with 60 ft's.

Are you really looking at any real, noticeable gains with the passenger headlight removed? I have the K&N FIPK2 on my Cobra. I guess I'd do it if it netted me a tenth or something and I was on the line of putting myself into the 12 second bracket.

I've ran my fastest times with the headlight out. It seems to make a difference in my car. Not anything I ever feel though. Just that I happen to have run faster when it was out.

It should help in the higher range, cooler air.

My fastest runs at 2 different tracks have always been with the headlight out as well. Don't know if it is psychological but the theory is sound. More cold air to the filter.
