Traction Control

Ok this might be a dumb question but bare with me. We didn't have all these goodies back in the late 70's when I used to drag race on a regular basis. We didn't have transbrakes/2 steps/studder boxes/ and we didn't have traction control. I keep reading about everybody spinning and not hooking up and so on. I seen the advice given to turn off the traction control. Obviously you would do that for the bunout but why not turn it back on to make your pass?

As i said forgive me if this is a dumbass question but I am curious. It just seems like this would have to help. I am going to the track for the first time this Sat night since the late 70's and I figure I need all the help I can get.

the traction control is no good on the strip.

what it does is cut fuel to your motor when it senses the tires slipping.

Ok thanks!! I knew there had to be a good reason. And that certainly would be a good reason.

IMO the traction control in the stangs is more of a safety feature, they're apparently not installed to enhance performance cuz they cut the fuel too much and the car bogs down too much therefore killing your ET.
