2001 mustang 5 speed vs. 2005 mustang auto.

Hey everyone,

There is this guy at school who wants to race me: I have a 2001 mustang coupe/manual/ CAI, and he has a 2005 mustang/auto/stock. Do I have a chance?

Thanks = ]

How badly do you think I would lose? I mean, he's making a couple of extra horsepower, but his car is also heavier and would most likely shift slower...

a car or 2 if that.

Get some gears and you will pass him.

I just noticed that this was in the v6 section.

I thought you were talking about GT's at first which is why I was kind of blunt with my reply.

it will be closer than you think.

You will loose bad. Eventhough they are heavier with a slight more hp/trq, Their output curves are much better than the Essex v6. The engine is more efficient at making power across a wider range and the redesigned auto transmission is nothing like the previous auto. It has another gear, better valving, and an improved fluid path design.

from MY exp. with them

I have an 01 V6 5 spd.

all I had was a catback/intake and steeda tri ax.

I raced one from a dig and won by half a car.

granted if we were to keep going (stopped once I hit 4th) I think he would have beat me.

lol.. I stopped in 4th because he was starting to inch forward.

If you get a couple small cheap mods done (intake, exhaust), you take your spare tire and jack out of the trunk, and you're a good enough driver, you could probably stand with him.

With some gears I bet you'd slip right past him.
