First Time At The Track (Racing)
So last night (wednesday) I went to the local drag strip (Speedworld) and did my first couple of runs. Now while I've been there around 15 times in the past I've never raced due to that fact that 1. I didn't have a car 2. That the car I had was rather unreliable (firebird, fox). So now that I actually have a reliable car I was comfortable to make my first pass.
Race #1 - Nissan Maxima (don't know the year) Pull up to the line, nervous as hell. Time Slip: R/T - .419 60' - 3.082 330 - 7.703 1/8 - 11.342 MPH - 64.91 1000 - 14.492 1/4 - 17.035 MPH- 89.63 My reaction time sucked teh ass. I hadn't been that high in rpms so I couldn't match them as I was shifting (yes, I grannyed it). Plus I didn't shift at the correct times (6000 rpm). Kid pretty much raped me with a 14.051. Race #2 - S197 GT Wasn't paying attention at all to the tree due to the fact that my friend sitting next to me was coaching me on what to do. Time Slip: R/T - .707 60' - 2.725 330 - 7.336 1/8 - 10.921 MPH - 67.74 1000 - 13.960 1/4 - 16.456 MPH- 89.83 Once again I get raped when the guy runs a 14.9, although I didn't granny shift but I was still reving past 5500rpm. Race #3 - Evo My best time of the night ![]() Time Slip: R/T - .323 60' - 2.921 330 - 7.413 1/8 - 10.933 MPH - 69.80 1000 - 13.896 1/4 - 16.342 MPH- 92.57 Even though I lost again (14.145) this was my fasted and most fun race. I wasn't nervous at all. I shifted at the right time (5200-5300 rpm) and I didn't granny at all. The only down side was a squealed the tires going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. So all in all I had a good time Looking forward to hopefully get into the 15s next time I go.For those who don't know, I raced a stock 2004 Mustang GT Thanks for looking

Wait... you were driving a stock '04 GT? I'm confused, I thought you were running a Nissan Maxima???
If you're in a stock GT then keep practicing. You'll get some really low 14's when you get better at driving that car. If you were in a Nissan then ummmmm... well.... o.k.!

Gotcha. You are in Orlando right? Is that the Speedworld you were talking about? I used to race there a lot and it's by far one of the worst I've been on. The track prep is the worst. Get yourself some nice drag radials if you ever want to get below a 2.0 60' on that track in a stock GT!

So I knew this needed to be moved, but why to the clubhouse and not the drag racing section?

Moved to correct section and wow your first time was horrid but glad u got the hang of it. and like 03 said dont put that clutch to the floor only as far as u need to engage it. this will help you shift faster.

get ur 60 where it should be and you'll be in the low 15s easily.
Just as a reference my 02 gt runs a 14.2 @ 99 with just a cai. Keep practicing u need alot of it and it only gets more fun the faster u go |

lol.. my 02 gt runs 13.4 wit just a few bolt ons and nt555r's lol. my times dropped from a 14.2 to a 13.4 just by gettin my 60ft time down and learning to shift faster! They actually dropped that much without adding any mods at all.... Just practice brought them down .8 sec...

ha.......it does pay to live in texASS. given the fact that i'm at ft. hood and all the kids....or younger guys have plenty of cash to blow on their car. many live in military housing and only pay for a phone. i think there will always be a track near here.

For starters, just take off like you are leaving a red light quickly. Then get higher and higher with your launch rpm until you begin to break the tires loose.

i usually launch this way. try to let the engine bog a lil bit right on takeoff. that way u could floor the gas after it bogs and u shouldn't spin any. im guessing u should bring the rpm's up around 2000, and let the clutch pedal out quick while pushing the gas pedal the same amount, but not dumping the clutch. right after the engine bogs down, mash the gas the rest of the way to the floor. it'll probably take some practice to find the rpm range to start out at that will make the engine bog down but not cut off.

Bogging is worse than spinning a little bit on the launch. Took me a while to learn that.
