a disapointing day at the track

Well my first track runs with my car I started out at 9.5's worked my way down run after run, ended up at consistant 8.9's on bald street tires. with weld in mufflers and an mgw shifter.

After jlt intake, bassani o/r x pipe, and an Xcal3 Custom tune by joe, I ran 9.1's consistant and finally hit ONE 8.9 and this is with decent kumho 712's

my 60 ft's were just plain garbage. anywhere from 2.1 to 2.3 couldn't touch a 2.0 if my life depended on it. i tryed numorous launch techniques, also dropped the pressure from 35 to 25 then from 25 to 18.... nothing.

Now I do know this track hasn't been redone in several years and we have another local track that was redone LAST year and I went to try that one friday evening but I wore shorts.. and that track requires pants .. blah so i watched all night instead. I'm going to try that better hooking track and see if I can drop to 8.7-8.8 and ill get back to you guys. I'm assuming my entire problem is in the tire, im not sure WHY but I can dump the clutch from a red light and beat trans ams running 8.7's but on the track I can't run hardly under a 9. blows my freakin mind ...

so here's what im thinking..

TIRE, NITTO NT555, PAIR, 275/40/17 ALL

comments, questions, feel free. pm if u want i feel better now that ive vented that

Well im learing too but i think that more pratice and those nitto rs will put you in a way better time. Me and you have the exact times..i hit a 8.9 but with a 2.0 60ft. I was thrilled to hit that FINALLY, every other runs (past 7) where all 9.2s to 9.0 with 60ft of 2.8-2.2

it is true a good driver could make all the difference. im really thinking the track is a crock. my corvette buddy has issues hooking too. we are goin to try another track and see if it helps any. but i think both you and I should definatly try out a set of nitto's. I know a guy with a few simple bolt ons in a 04 mach, jlt intake, o/r x , probably mufflers, and i think underdrive pullies, and a 4 degree timing advance. maybe a few other misc things but nothing major at all. stock manifolds and such.... he runs 8.5 im not sure if his were nittos but i know they are drag radials. I have more mods than him and should be well capable of beating him if I could hook like him. his car squeels a tad off the line but he dont chirp second or third like i do lol. and i spin badd off the line

i already have BFG DRs...no trouble getting them to hook up..do a light burn out and im good..so i know that with those nittos and a good track prep you should be well into the 8s.

Track looked shatty! You all were spinning off the line, too.

When I hook, I cut 2.04 60ft's running 15psi in the stock Goodyear skaterbacks. That gets me 8.74's most of the time.

I should be a small bit quicker now since I changed the upper plenum, though.

Go to the other track. I wouldn't go back to this one until they resurfaced it. You need to get some drs but the track is hurting you too.

Yeah I had plans on trying that track this weekend but im saving cash, moving out finally this comin friday. and being the pickey person I am, I spent $730 on a new microfiber sofa with a queen size bed inside. yea i know i shoulda got the recliners but i thought the sleeper bed would be better for my apartment for friends to crash on, and for myself to crash on when im watchin my big ass 60" tv and surround sound in my kick azz living room

as soon as I get back to the track ill bring this thread back up and let you guys know how it went. im sure ill drop to a 8.8 or 8.7 ATLEAST

they looked good to me. and the car sounded good too!

oh yeah, if i were u i wouldnt pay 319 for those regular nitto 555's. it might be better for u to just go ahead and get the 555r dr's. i payed 408 for mine mounted, balanced and everything.

yep they hook good. Trying to just feather the clutch out good. I beleave i take it out to fast. Feels like right after i take off i bog down a bit. Im still WAY to scared to take it up to 3000+. Thats probilly the real problem.

Well that link you posted was for 555 street tires, not the r's. Be careful what you order.
