terrible times :(

Well I went to the drag strip last night for this big test and tune race all night thing they have. When we got there they were prepping the track because it was too cold and no one was catching traction. Well they got done and we started to race, and it was terrible. I could not get traction off the line sadly my best time was a 16.3 the import guys were having a great time because they could catch traction. All night I saw civics beat corvettes ( a majority of what was there. Most the guys i talked to said a week before they were running at least a second faster than they were tonight so that made me feel a little bit better. All in all it was a fun night just wish I had gotten some better time. Well this ended up just a little long, but I thought I would share.

Why do people try to drag race on street tires and then complain about no traction...

That would be like me going off roading with a set of slicks and crying about getting stuck in the mud.

well I don't have the money or the set up for drag radials but I can usually catch traction fine but spinning through 2 gears is ridicules

it can get worse. if i go on street tires i have to watch out for 4th, it will step out on bad conditions. i never have went on a night where i was a full second slower, was it snowing?

It had been sleeting earlier that day they were very close to not opening but there were a lot of people there. Even the guys on DR's had some problems.

Street tires will never hook..........EVER! Slicks will help more than you can imagine. Track prep is a big issue too. If the track isn't prepped you won't even hook with slicks.

V6 and hard launch don't belong in the same sentence. A 7.5 will live a long time behind a V6. My 85 GT had a 7.5 and never broke.

We are talking about a damn near stock V6 car here. Not a twin turbo car. That 7.5 that broke on a 13 second car was probably not a V6 car and probably been abused for many years. My 85 was a low 13 second car and I abused it for two years and the rear end laughed at all the abuse. A naturally aspirated V6 doesn't make much torque so breaking the rear end would be the least of my concerns. And for the record the 7.5 and 8.8 rear ends use the same axles.......well at least on the fox body cars and Rangers and Aerostars. I can't imagine anything changing since then.

true for the torque, but it was a sn95 v6 with nitrous. (nitrous adds a lot of tq. though...) yeah, the 28 splines are a weak point for sure- and i dont have all the specs on the car, so it is almost as bad as hear-say and taking the guy's word for it...
