2000 Mustang V6 rear end noise

i have a 2000 mustang v6 convertible and just recently i've noticed there are two different noises appearing to be coming from the rear end. first is when i'm coming to a stop or a slow coast, it sounds like my tires are underinflated if that makes any sense. i put air, still makes noise. other noise is when cruising at 40mph or above its kinda like a high pitched whirr noise. best way to describe the noise is that it sounds like if you were sitting at a complete stop and you turn the wheel and you can hear the power steering motor. sounds like that but gets more high pitched the faster i go. i notice NO performance difference but i'm just wondering if it's my tranny or just differential noise. any help on this would be much appreciated.

not really sure..

you gear oil could be old... you could have metal shavings or bent an axle.

haha i dunno. but that's a good start to change the gear oil

it's easy to change to gear oil.

just unbolt the diff cover and the oil falls right out.

make sure you scrape and gasket off of the diff cover and and diff before putting a new gasket on it. once you have the new gasket on the cover.. place the cover back on the diff and hand tighten the bolts.

when the gasket starts to get tacky(about half an hour later) go ahead and tighten the bolts the rest of the way.

now to refill it.

there will be a recessed plug on the the back of the diff( near where the drive shaft sits.

un screw it ( the end of a socket works great) and fill it with geak oil until it starts to leak from the plug.
screw the plus back in.

then hop on one leg while patting your head and rubbing your tummy and say :YAAAAAY i like peanuts
