the lower the gear(ie 3.55 and up), the better the acceleration. the ratio is how many times the diff turns in compliance with the driveshaft. a 4.0:1 means one turn of the driveshaft will equal four turns of the diff. also ends up with higher rpm's and higher gas consumption. which is really bad with gas prices going up  lolthe higher the gear(ie 2.73 and below) is the same just lower acceleration. end note is lower gears will lower the top speed and raise accel. higher ratios will extend your top speed but takes longer to get there  -rob
