Stock or Billet Flywheel?1. What are the benefits of having a billet flywheel over the stock flywheel? 2. If you have a stock flywheel and your going down the 1320, when you shift, your rpm's don't drop as fast, but if you have a lightweight billet flywheel wouldn't your rpm's drop really fast? 3. If your rpm's drop faster with the lightweight flywheel than with the stock flywheel, wouldn't that take more HP to bring it back up to where the stock flywheel would have left the rpm's thus resulting in a lower ET? 4. For an everyday driver and weekend track car would it help anything out, such as ET's or gas mileage or anything else for that matter? Please help out in any way you can, thanks!

i believe its the other way around. the billet flywheel will alow you to rev quicker. also i think a heavier flywheel is better for making tq(read that somewhere) but cant remember. bump so someone else can chime in.

Less weight does rev quicker, so the torque/hp curves come up faster. Like dirt-track racers run really lite flywheels because they need the power to come up really fast and really hard. As opposed to typical street, where an engine needs more momentum from the flywheel for those slower takeoffs.

You will like the aluminum flywheel. The engine will rev quicker and the car will accelerate quicker. My brother in law put a Fidanza in his Cobra last year and it was a night and day difference.

It's all very true, yes the engine will rev MUCH quicker. You'll be surprised how much quicker. But I do have just one question, "How much do you plan on doing to your car?" Cause honestly I wouldn't get one unless I had some major mods and was having problems getting into the powerband, or I had problems with my clutch slipping even though I had a VERY powerful clutch.
If you wanna try it out by all means go for it it can be very beneficial but there are downsides to it. Like mentioned above you do lose some low end torque but you will also see your powerband peak faster. There are lots of reasons to get it if you have a high powered car and some that say you shouldn't get it. |
